their options. In April of 2014, Ezdan had
resigned himself to remaining at home under
the Wyoming Cottage Bakery Laws when fate
dealt him a different hand. “I went downtown
to pay a bill for the theater group I was
treasurer of, and happened to see this building
for sale -- a lightbulb went off in my head,” he
says. “My wife and I looked at the building
and knew that it just might work.”
With the assistance of Ezdan’s baking
instructor and bakery consultant, Marda Stoliar,
a layout of the bakery was created for the historic
building, built in 1925 and located on Main Street.
Months of grant writing and building restoration
took place, with Marda and Ezdan carefully selecting
color schemes, lighting and woodwork to best
compliment the era of the building. “I wanted to keep
close to a 1925 feel, and make it slightly Old World
so that people feel special when they come in,” Ezdan
explains. Marda also helped train the Fluckiger
family in the art of baking, teaching them how to
make and shape rolls, fill quiche and peach cobblers.
“Everyone had a chance to get their hands into the
mix – pun intended,” Ezdan laughs. The bakery
doors opened July 30, 2015, with a tremendous
response from the community and surrounding area.
“I love the small community and the relationship
that people feel towards the bakery,” Ezdan says.
“They are excited and want to bring their families to
see our place and have lunch. It is wonderful to be
contributing something to Main Street that makes
people excited to come.”
They are also passionate about the Torrington
community, giving their support to local
merchants in return. “There are wonderful
resources right here that fill almost every need
I have. We used all local contractors for the
remodel on the building and use a local farm’s
raspberries and the local meat market’s bacon
and sausage in our products,” Ezdan explains.
“When I needed a stackable washer and
dryer for the bakery’s linens I walked across
the street to the appliance store and they had
it on display. I got my office furniture from
Torrington Office Supply half a block away.”
