A Tale of Three Stores
A STORE WITH
HEART in Powell
A
re you one of many of us who enjoy a
regional arts and crafts show? Step into
Heartworks, A Crafters Community, and
be greeted by the work of dozens of northern
Wyoming and southern Montana artisans, all at
once, in one location that you can visit again and
again. That’s a powerful visual, and this hometown
Powell store is a powerful creation.
The store is the brainchild of four partners,
three of whom were members of the Yellowstone
Weavers & Spinners Guild: Mary Vogel, Jan
Sapp, Jan Sons and Susi McClain. Feeling the
fatigue of the time and expense of traveling to
fairs, they dreamed of a place where area artisans
could gather to share their creations and offer
them to the public. They gathered business cards
and reached out to artisans who would meld well
– a large majority of those contacted jumped on
board, and in 2015, Heartworks was born.
Big Horn Basin Artisans are represented over a
broad base: as far north as Billings, Montana;
as far west as Red Lodge, Montana; as far south
as Thermopolis and as far east as Ten Sleep.
Artisans can join the community as members,
or be a consignment vendor; both members and
consignment vendors are featured within the
store. Membership benefits include a listing on the
community’s website (heartworkscrafters.com),
and the opportunity to be a featured artist of the
month. Monthly featured artists have a website
page dedicated to them for the month, center stage
for their goods in the store, and hold a meet & greet
session as well as special classes with the artist.
Heartworks also hosts a monthly Cup & Craft
get together, where coffee and crafting classes
invite the community to come in and create. Be
sure to follow their Facebook page for details on
upcoming events.
