We were also intrigued by Garey’s clock made from
hand saws, some original games that we recognized
from our own home collection from my husband
Levi’s family, and a gathering of old doors waiting to
be reincarnated.
Antiques are one half of the story at Hermans
Antiques, the other half being renovation and repair.
“If it’s broken and made out of wood, we can fix it,”
Garey told me, and clearly he wasn’t exaggerating.
Garey’s nephew pointed through the window of
a closed door to a wine rack being created from a
fascinating antique radio. It was currently in an
important stage of the process that kept us from
getting closer, but Levi and I were in love with the
idea. Garey created his 30 years in the restoration
and antiques business from a previous life in the
construction and renovation industries, channeling
his expertise into transforming well-loved items into
new creations since 1989.
We also wanted to hear about Garey and the local
Gillette Kiwanis chapter. A charter member since
1975, Garey lends his time year-round to the club,
and has a stack of flyers ready by the register to
hand to anyone ready to learn more. He rattled off
