WLM | home WILD SPACES & COUNTRY CHARM: Jackson Hole, Rivermeadows Home Can Be Yours By Scott Albrecht, Obsidian Real Estate jacksonholeobsidian.com Images by Aaron Kraft J ackson has evolved into a center for the arts, fine dining, and world class entertainment. This is a boon to many, but raises the question whether Jackson may be losing its western character and its sense of community. There are just a few cattle ranches that still put up hay. Contemporary architecture is growing in popularity, while log homes become less common. It is a threat and a debate that will endure, but there are many reassuring traits that will always define Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We have incredible open spaces that will never be developed. The wild and pristine are always nearby, and they dominate our landscape. The Elk Refuge consists of 24,000 acres that are right beside the Town of Jackson. Grand Teton National Park covers most of the valley floor. The Bridger Teton National Forest circles the entire perimeter. These sanctuaries protect our vistas and our wildlife. Our herds of buffalo, elk, and antelope are thriving. Though there will always be some threat of future development in isolated spots, the fact remains that 97.5% of our land is forever protected. Since the first homestead here in 1884, many more ranches have been returned to their natural state than have been developed into homes or shopping malls. 14 Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine | Autumn & Holiday 2015
