Expectations & Role
Facilitators will have already submitted their workshop proposal to WLD for
approval via an online application. The proposal includes the workshop
description, learning outcomes, suggested date and time, audio visual needs, and
facilitator bio.
WLD’s expectations of facilitators:
Workshop content must focus on knowledge and skills that help employees
and organizations be more effective and productive in the workplace.
Materials need to be organized and presented clearly.
Enough copies of materials must be provided for participants.
Various learning methods need to be incorporated throughout the workshop.
Attendance needs to be taken using roster sent from WLD, and returned
promptly to WLD.
Adhere to UMass’ Principles of Employee Conduct to foster a respectful and
inclusive learning environment: https://www.umass.edu/provost/node/92.
Role:
A facilitator’s role is often about utilizing activities that enable people to learn from
each other and build on their own knowledge.
For example, if a group of people had little to no knowledge on a topic, you
might start with a presentation or demonstration before letting them apply
what they learned. However, the knowledge doesn’t have to come from the
facilitator.
Even if the workshop is about something which is new to the participants, you
can still encourage them to draw on their life experiences instead of telling
them everything.
