Interview
This week we got an interview with Zane, a tournament official! Enjoy his opinions and the interview!
Q: So on Wiz, you are a member of M4H, and a tournament official, how did you end up where you are now?
A: Ah...where do I begin. I guess it started with a group called Happy Helpers. I started helping out on their threads and also assisted/picked up runs in the Merc Forum. I was completely into the whole helping players in game stuff. At one point I actually started losing interest in the game and took about a month long break. I came back started helping around the forums again and by November of 2011 I had received a PM from John Shadow asking to join the team. The team was awesome, there are so many kind and amazing people who are all committed to helping members. We really are like a family in the sense that we are always there for each other. Now as for Tournament staff... I started doing tournaments in the summer of 2011. I was awful, I'll admit it. I took that month long break, and I completely forgot about PvP. I actually had completely forgotten about it until a former Merc, Cassandra Dragonheart, and several other mercenaries got me into it again. I joined more tours in the spring and early summer of 2012, I wasn't really known in the PvP Community, I was much more active in the forums. In July Morgrim Stormblood opened applications for the Tournament Official position. Now, to understand how I got interested in the position, we have to travel to an old site, Pottermore Central. In March of 2012 I was became a "Duel Master" over there with Morgrim. I basically had the same duties as a Tournament Master here. One of the many members I got to meet on Pottermore Central was a member named Snitch, or danieldragoncaller here. Daniel was a former TO, and at the time Applications opened he was a TO and suggested I apply. After some thought, I decided I would apply. I knew most of the community, I was well-versed with the tournament system and rules, and a month later I was walking around with the title of Tournament Official. After I got the job I was very committed, I was at a lot of matches...yea, a lot. I became much more recognized in the PvP community after a while, and in December of 2012 I received a PM asking if I would like to take over the position of Lead TO as CelestialMoon was promoted to Tournament Master. So that's how I got to where I am in the community, haha.
Q: How long ago did you start playing w101 and joining Central?
A: I started playing in December of 2009. My computer broke. I didn't start playing again until June of 2010. I joined Central in October of 2010, but my computer broke..again. And I didn't start playing again till December of 2010. I've pretty much been playing and have been active on central ever since.
Q: Was it a good decision to begin playing this game?
A: Personally, I think it was. I have met so many amazing people and have made many new friends. The game, most of the time, was fun and it provided an "escape" of sorts from real life when I really wanted to bang my head against my desk, haha.
Q: What are your opinions on the current PvP system?
A: It's a mess...It could be much better than it currently is and it's a shame the current state of PvP is as it is. The last time I entered ranked for fun..was last summer with Daniel and Challenge, we got a puppet team, we lost. Whenever I PvP I usually head to the Practice Arena and set my level limits, lol.
Q: If you could fix one thing on Central, what would it be?
A: Well..there isn't much to fix on central. We barely ever see the "This Site is Unavailable" message anymore. I don't think there is anything else that needs to be fixed. If I could add or change something based on personal preferences I want a Piggle and/or Turtle pet in the Forum Store.
Thanks for the interview!
