This week we are going to take a look at an awesome story by BrookeLegendCrafter called "Sign of the Spiral" Here is a small part we have decided to show you!
"A woman hurried down the street, a worn silver hood covering her shockingly green hair. Pale symbols shimmered and shifted on the cloth, and in her arms lay a soft blue silk blanket. Yellow, silver, and green symbols similar to the woman's shifted across the fabric.
Inside the blanket was a smiling baby, peering at her mother's pale face with green eyes. The baby giggled, her attention now centered on a rune on the woman's sleeve.
The woman's eyes widened, her face losing even more color as she heard a rustling nearby. She held the baby closer to her chest, murmuring, “Shh, my child. We must not be caught. Someday you will understand why I am doing this. You will do great things, just like your father.”
The dark air was cool and damp. Leaves rustled around her feet. She walked even faster, finally reaching a driveway. It was patterned with stained glass, which seemed to almost glow.
When she reached the finely carved mahogany door, she pulled out a thin jade-embedded sword, and waved it in the air, holding her baby in her left arm. A green light was left in its trail, a shape that could be easily identified as a leaf.
As if the bell was rung, a black haired woman opened the door, breathless. “Cassandra! Are you okay? You're late! We were so worried about you!”
Cassandra put a finger to her lips. “Alyssa! We must stay quiet. They are lurking about.”
Alyssa nodded, and literally dragged Cassandra and her child inside. “Put that blade away! You'll hurt her!”, she whispered. Alyssa lightly touched the blanket, studying the runes, and carefully moved the blanket away from the baby girl's face, and murmured, “What's her name?”
Cassandra sheathed the sword. “Her - her name is-.” Unable to finish, she murmured, "Her name is Marked on the back of her neck." She pressed her lips to the little girl's forehead, who was staring at her mother with sad eyes. The child wailed, and the walls began to shake. A single crack split in the ground, forming a sort of ring around the small group."
