VOLUNTEERING TO BRING WISHES TO LIFE
As well as having your support, Make-A-Wish is lucky to be backed by a team
of wonderful volunteers – more than 1,100 across 57 Branches in fact! Like you they are
incredibly passionate about making wishes come true.
Volunteers, Pam Rimmer and Damon Ford, are no exception. The pair worked together at the Goulburn Volunteer
Branch and then in 2010 helped establish the Wollongong Branch which today has 30 active volunteers. Damon
and Pam have even managed to recruit a few of their own family members, with five Rimmers and four Fords now
keen Make-A-Wish volunteers.
Knowing this was a lifelong passion for Pam, her family wanted to join her. “As a family we are very close and what is
important to one is important to all,” she said. Damon believes their families see the passion they have as volunteers
and that it is contagious!
Long before she became a volunteer, Pam was holding fundraising events for Make-A-Wish, after a personal
experience drew her to our work. Damon donated to the cause and then decided he wanted to become more
involved. After some research he decided volunteering was for him.
“As a volunteer you truly do experience the ‘power of a wish’, you see it and feel it. That feeling of being able to
bring some magic and joy into wish families lives is indescribable!” said Damon. ■
