Dusshera is celebrated because good won over bad when Lord
Rama fought against Ravana and rescued Sita after a long
struggle. This auspicious occasion is celebrated by all the Hindu’s
all across the world.
The meaning of ‘Vijaya’ is victory and
‘Dashami’ means the tenth day. The
celebration of this festival goes on for 10
days.
How Is It Celebrated?
In India, every region celebrates this
festival for different reasons but the
purpose is common.
Statues of Lord Durga, Lakshmi,
Saraswati, Ganesha, and Kartikeya are
carried close to water bodies, people sing
and chant with devotion by immersing the
idols in water. In some places, theatrical

Ramlila is performed on Dussehra.
Besides, the statue of Ravana with ten
heads is made and burnt with fireworks.
The purpose of doing this is to destroy all
bad coming in the way of good. The end
of Dussehra marks the preparation for
Diwali.
Significance
Dussehra is the day for justice. Anything
that’s wrong or bad is supposed to end
one day and the truth gets rewarded in
the end. People believe it to be the right
day to start a new venture.
