Nation's Huge Tribute To Iron Man-Sardar Vallabhai Patel
PM Narendra Modi pays respect to the national
leader Vallabhai Patel by dedicating the tallest
statue, on behalf of the whole nation on 31st
Oct. It is standing as the tallest statue in the
world till now. The statue is located in Gujarat on
the river island facing Narmada Dam. The giant
statue is not only a tribute to Vallabhai Patel but
also a monument of Unity(The Statue Of Unity). “The statue will remind those who question
India’s existence, that this nation was, is
and will remain eternal,” PM Modi said.
“This (statue) is a source of unity...with this
sentiment we should march...and march
with a dream to make the country ‘Ek Bharat
Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Superior
India)”
The new pride of India is 600 feet tall and the
construction costs around 3000 crore. The
project of the statue also includes three-star
hotel, a museum and a research center. “I am amazed when some people of our
own country dare to see this initiative from
a political view & criticize us like we have
committed a huge crime. Is remembering
country’s great personalities a crime?”
The project of constructing the statue was
taken by Larsen and Turbo in Oct 2014 and
successfully accomplished it by Oct 2018. To
build this huge monument, it took 129 tonnes of
iron from 100 million farmers in 1,69,000 villages
across all the states of India.
It is brilliantly designed in walking pose, by
Indian Sculptor Ram.V.Sutar. The Statue Of
Unity will be the new tourist attraction of India.
The date for the inauguration of the statue
(October 31, 2018) also marks the 143rd birth
anniversary of Vallabhai Patel. The statue will be
opened for public on 3rd Nov and the tickets will
be available on line.
Impact of “Statue Of Unity”
Government was questioned about farmers
welfare and the funds could be used for irrigation
facilities instead of constructing the Statue of
Unity. They also claimed that the project has
destroyed natural resources and that families
that had to be relocated from the site of the
statue haven’t been compensated. Gujarat
tribal leaders called for bandh on 31st Oct(the
inauguration day of the statue).

“If it was not for Sardar Sahab’s resolve, then
we Indians would have had to take visa to
see the Gir lions, pray at Somnath, or to see
Hyderabad’s Charminar”.
