NITI Ayog in partnership with the Government of United States of America hosted the 8th annual Global
Entrepreneurship
Summit at Hyderabad from Nov 28th to 30th.
Addressed by PM Shri Narendra Modi and led by Ms Ivanka Trump, advisor to President Trump; this GES 2017 highlighted the theme,“ Women First, Prosperity for all” focused on supporting women entrepreneurs and fostering economic growth globally.
Over 1500 delegates from over 150 countries attended the Summit that was held in South Asia for the first time with a focus on women entrepreneurs at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre( HICC) in Hitec City.
It brought together leading investors, entrepreneurs, academicians, think-tanks and other stakeholders to propel the global entrepreneurship ecosystem. This event focused on focus on four innovative, high-growth industries-- healthcare and life sciences; digital economy and financial technology, energy and infrastructure and media and entertainment.
Mitra, an indigenously-built robot by Bengaluru-based Invento, greeted the two leaders PM Modi and Ms Trump, with a‘ Namaste’ and then proceeded to have a conversation with them. The bot was designed by Balaji Viswanathan and his
14-member team. The robot is made of fibre-glass and is an updated and modified version of Mitra1, which has previously been deployed at several corporate and family functions, Vishwanathan stated. All parts of the bot are sourced domestically, except for the chips that are imported.
Union Defence Minister Nirmala Seetharaman, Ivanka Trump, daughter & Adviser of US President, John Chambers, Marcus Wallenberg, chairman of SAAB and Sibongile Sambo, Managing Director, SRS Aviation were then part of a panel discussion after the inauguration of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017 in Hyderabad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the world’ s entrepreneurs to invest in a resurgent India as the government had made great strides in minimizing the regulatory burden for companies, creating a level playing field, evolving transparent policies and overhauling the taxation system, efforts that were recognized by global rating agency Moody’ s recent upgrade.
