Aziz Ansari - the first Asian
American to win at Oscar 2018
Aziz Ansari, an Indian American becomes the first
Asian to win an Oscar for Best Actor in a television
series Comedy or Musical at the Golden Globes 2018
on Saturday, for his Netflix series “Master of None”.
He created history as the first man from Asian decent
to have won the feat.
Ansari is the actor as well as
writer for “Master of None”
and he has been winning on
most of the Television awards
for his comedy timing. Hailing
from South Carolina, Ansari
began his acting career as a
stand up comedian. Ansari
said, “I genuinely didn’t think
I would win because all the
websites said I was going to
lose. The only reason my acting
is good in that show is because
everyone else holds me up the
whole time.”
With typical Indian features,
Ansari has risen above the
mediocre expectations that
are from a person of color and
Asian descent. The Master
of None actor and creator
Ansari won over Anthony
Anderson (Black-ish), Kevin
Bacon (I LoveDick), William
H. Macy (Shameless) and Eric
McCormack (Will & Grace).
He was nominated in the same
category back in 2016 too and
he commented, “I’m glad we
won this one because it
would’ve really sucked to
lose two of these in a row;
it would’ve been a really
sh--ty moment for me, but
this is nice.” He thanked
his fellow cast and crew,
specially Alan Yang, the co-
creator.
This years 75th Golden
Globes ceremony took
place at the Beverly Hilton
in Los Angeles hosted by
Seth Myers.
He also kept up his comedy at
the thanks giving speech with,
“I want to thank Italy for all the
amazing food we ate in season
two”
On Netflix’s original series,
Ansari stars as Dev Shah, the
hilarious pasta loving show
host. He is the co-creator,
writer and director for the show.
This is his second acting prize
for “Master of None” after back
to back Emmy’s for comedy
writing for the same show.
