Kartik Purnima - Shiva Puja
Karthik Purnima is called
Dev Diwali, Guru Nanak
Jayanti and Tripura Poornima,
it is celebrated on 12th
November. On this auspicious
day, people believe that
worshiping Lord Shiva will
fill a person’s mind with
knowledge and wealth for the
next seven births
This is a grand festival like Diwali for all
Hindu’s and it comes on the 15th night of
the Karthik month. The Sikh’s celebrate
this day as Guru Nanak Jayanti. It is an
auspicious day for all the Jains as well.
Precisely, this day is celebrated one
month after Diwali, 15 days after Sharad
Purnima and two days after Diwali
Vivah. It is considered auspicious to
give donations such as fruits, rice, and
pulses. Apart from this, the charity should
be done after taking a bath in the Ganga
River. On this day it is good to light
lamps in your house and give clothes or
Dakshina to a Brahmin, aunt, and sister.
It is believed that on this day Lord Shiva
had killed a demon named Tripura and
all Lord Shiva’s devotees can attain a
few of the aims of human life namely,
Artha, Dharma, Kama and Moksha.
Villages and towns are all lit up and
decorated on this day as there is a belief
that God in all forms comes down to
bless all devotees.
In entire South India and places like Varanasi,
Allahabad, and Amritsar in North Idia, this festival
is celebrated with utmost devotion and energy.
There is an astrological signficance of
celebrating Karthik Purnima as well, it is believed
that the two planets Mercury and Venus are
looked after by Lord Vishnu and Lord Lakshmi. It
is believed that worshiping them on this day will
get you good health, wealth and happiness in life
by changing the situation in your natal chart.
