WSD vs. Grace Christian School 25-6, 25-6, 25-10 After facing several dif cult teams, Wisconsin had no problem with Grace Christian School. Most of the points in this game came from service. Kori Koss had eight aces while KaYoua Xiong and Lyssa Matsche had six aces each. Sophomore, Katelyn Miller, got into action with two aces while freshman, Briana Robertson, added another service point. Every player on the team had at least one service point. WSD vs. Union Grove Christian School 25-23, 28-26, 16-25, 14-25, 6-15 WSD beat Union Grove in the rst two games but was unable to win one more game in order to win the match. Union Grove was persistent and battled Wisconsin to win the last three games. Lyssa Matsche led the team with three setting assists. Ka Youa Xiong, Anna Dorst, Elizabeth Besaw, and Alaqua Cox had two setting assists each. Ka Youa was on re by digging 13 hits from Union Grove. Kori Koss served 13 points including one ace. CSSD Tournament at Ohio School for the Deaf Columbus, Ohio was the site of the Central States Schools for the Deaf volleyball tournament. The Lady Firebirds were undefeated in all matches to win the championship after taking second place last year. In the round robin format, the Michigan School for the Deaf closely fought the Firebirds, which was a preview for the eventual championship game between these teams. The Firebirds came out on the winning side with scores of 25-22 and 25-16. Wisconsin defeated the Indiana JV team easily 25-12 and 2518. Illinois, a long time CSSD powerhouse, lost to Wisconsin 25-14 and 25-21. The Firebirds captured the Spartans winning games with scores of 25-8 and 25-23. In the playoffs, Illinois was the rst victim of the mighty Firebirds. The games were somewhat close but the Firebirds never released the Tigers from their talons. Game scores were 25-22 and 25-17. The Tartars attempted to stomp the Firebirds in the championship match but the Firebirds were able to lift off and beat the Tartars with scores of 25-14 and 25-22, culminating in the 2013 CSSD Volleyball Championship trophy! WSD vs. Waukesha Christian Academy 26-28, 24-26, 25-19, 25-8, 15-12 Waukesha came to WSD and stole the rst two games from the Firebirds. In the third game, the Firebirds woke up and managed to win three straight games. Xiong red up the team with eight successful kills to go with ve digs. Kori Koss had 20 kill attempts but Waukesha was able to dig her hits. Anna Dorst and Ka Youa Xiong served well and led the team with four aces each. WSD vs. Rock County Christian School 8-25, 24-26, 16-25 The Firebirds were swept by Rock County in three games. Excellent service by the opponent is what did the Firebirds in. The coaches allowed the substitutes to start the rst match. The substitutes gained experience in seeing how the game is played at the varsity level. A comeback attempt was staged in the second game to no avail. Wisconsin could not win the nal game. However, Ka Youa Xiong paced the team with six aces and Alyssa Cox had six straight service points in the second match. Fall 2013 - 23
