Elementary School News By Lori Lindau 100 Days of School When school starts each fall, elementary teachers and students start counting the days. We are not counting the days until Halloween or Thanksgiving or Christmas. We are counting to reach 100 Days of School! Each year, we mark the occasion with a story and activity centers. Students began the 20122013 celebration by sharing 100 items from home. Students brought bags with paper clips, cereal, goldfish crackers, Q-tips and stickers. Everyone made headbands with ‘100’ on them. They counted 100 pieces of Fruit Loops cereal by placing them on a 100 chart and then strung them all together into a necklace. Like Energizer Bunnies, our students jumped and skipped and squatted and ran to complete 100 exercises. Finally, we enjoyed a scrumptious ‘100’ cookie with red and white frosting made by Ivy from the WSD kitchen. Students were tired out by the end of the day. They got their energy back when the teachers announced, “Guess what? We’re starting to count again! Summer is in 81 days!” LEFT: Yummy! Tania Rooker enjoys an‘100 Day” cookie! The story taught students that the greatest reward comes from caring for someone other than themselves. While the chilly weather kept the elementary students indoors, they still enjoyed the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Students scoured the library for candy-filled colored eggs. After the hunt, students enjoyed delicious frosted cookies made by the cafeteria. While the chilly weather kept the elementary students indoors, they still enjoyed the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
