Elementary School News by Karla Gunn A Trip to the Apple Barn On September 14, the lower elementary students went to the Apple Barn Orchard owned by Steve and Judy Jacobson. The Apple Barn Orchard has been in the Jacobson family since 1848. The Apple Barn is located at Sugar Creek, which is about a 10-minute drive from the WSD campus. The students were very excited to go on a hayride adventure, riding on the hay wagon into the orchard. They helped pick up apples and learned about the apple tree cycle. The guide explained the process, starting with what happens to the picked apples all the way until their transforation into pasteurized apple cider. The students enjoyed delicious apple donuts and cider before playing on the famous firetruck. They came back to WSD feeling very refreshed. Teacher Rene Ambrose, aid Kim Holub, and WSD’s pre-school class enjoy a ride abound the apple orchard. 3rd grader Sarah Hau, watches over pre-schooler Mia Eldred as they await more new experinces T. J. Carrol and Cayden Rawlings had lots of fun on a beautiful day at the Apple Barn. As the guide explained about picking apples, Pam Filak interprets.
