Students of all ages who are deaf or hard of hearing, or have a dual loss, may sign up with the help of either a teacher or parent. At least six items of correspondence go to their pal during the year, including letters, art projects, and videos. Pals are of the same gender and age range. They may share a communication style or a hobby, or have similar interests. This fall, more than 100 students from across Wisconsin registered with Distant Pals, including more than 30 from WSD. Pals filled out a “Meet Me” sheet with basic information to assist with the matching. However for safety reasons no last names, hometowns, or email addresses are allowed to be exchanged. H
