TRANMERE ROVERS OPEN DAY
England is at its finest when the sun shines , and as so the saying goes , “ The sun shines on the virtuous .” And so it was , that on Sunday 25th July , Tranmere Rovers hosted its summer Open Day , and did that sun shine so well upon us all ?
On a beautiful sunny afternoon , Tranmere Rovers , partners with Wirral Life , showcased everything about the club and heralded the start of its new footballing season , which began at home to Walsall on Saturday 7th August .
Now , of course , the focus was on football – and around 2,000 fans welcomed back the prodigal son , Mickey Mellon for the start of his third stint at Tranmere – his second as first team manager . With the majority of his squad in place there was an enormously warm reception on the pitch , which was then followed by a very patient session with the players signing shirts and autograph books for the devoted fans . Chairman Mark Palios gave an , as ever , impressive summary of the club ’ s recent progress and outlined his plans for the coming year . Financial stability , wide community engagement and of course a focus on a return to League ONE football were emphasised .
His vice Chair , Nicky , started the day with the official opening of the club ’ s first Stadium Lift , and friends and family of Lee Knight , who had initiated the campaign were present to acknowledge the fine achievement . Other highlights included the presence of the new Fan Park partner German Kraft Beer , who kindly donated all the proceeds of the day to www . crowdfunder . co . uk / fanpark , and further satisfying thirsts were Brimstage Brewery and Jim & Tonic .
The club also launched their new Tranmere Rovers Lottery , which is a smartphone based lottery and entirely dedicated to the club and good causes across the Wirral . The Open Day concluded with great enthusiasm from all the fans , and of course an expression of great hope for the coming football season .
