CHILDREN ' S AIR AMBULANCE GALA DAY
CHILDREN ' S AIR AMBULANCE GALA DAY
On 1st August , The Children ’ s Air Ambulance ( TCAA ) hosted a Gala Race Day at Chester Racecourse ’ s Family Funday in a bid to raise vital funds and awareness of the lifesaving charity .
The Children ’ s Air Ambulance is a national service , changing the face of paediatric and neonatal care through the high-speed transfer of critically ill babies and children - flying them from one hospital to another for specialist care .
The clinically designed helicopters provide a flying intensive care unit for babies and children .
All transfers of critically ill babies and children carry an inherent risk – the longer a child is out of the hospital , the greater that risk . With their ability to fly approximately four times faster than a land ambulance , TCAA can minimise travel times and risk .
Guests were invited by the charity to the Leverhulme Suite , where they enjoyed a threecourse meal , participated in raffles and auctions , and watched the races – including two sponsored races . Amongst the guests was former TCAA patient Indigo Haight , whose mother gave a first-hand account of when Indigo – who at 14-months old suffered a series of strokes - was flown from Truro to Liverpool in just 2 hours and 18 minutes .
The charity is looking forward to hosting an even bigger event next August .
