THE WRO, WEST KIRBY
by Nicky Rigby-Smith & Si Hall
Situated at the gateway to West Kirby, the multi award winning Wro
is a unique venue offering an exclusive mix of fresh food and drink,
brilliant events and private celebrations. Wirral Life went along to
check out their menu of an eclectic mix of small plates!
The restaurant is light and contemporary in design, airy in the summer,
cosy in the winter, gre at to sit and watch the world go by! We ordered
a selection of plates, each dish is made fresh to order and served as and
when it is ready.
First out was the Homemade Nachos, tomato salsa, sour cream and
guacamole. Not what you'd expect, a real visual surprise. Creatively
constructed with fresh handmade nacho’s - really light. A generous
portion, presented beautifully with fresh chilli and spring onion.
Delicious! We paired this dish with an Italian Pinot Grigio, Arietta.
Next up was Honeyed Salt & Pepper Ribs. The ribs are cooked in a secret
homemade rub, the honey really balances the salt and pepper without
being overly sweet. The super tender meat just fell off the bone. Perfect.
We paired with a glass of French Chardonnay, Les Hauts de la Garrigue.
The delicious Chorizo and Parmesan Arancini came served on a bed
of fresh tomato and basil sauce. Simple, but done well. Paired with an
Argentinian Malbec, La Pradera.
Followed by The Pork Fillet Satay Skewers with peanut sauce. With a
little kick - these babies can light your fire! Succulent pork, with a rich
asian slaw. One of our favourite dishes! Worked well with a glass of
South African Sauvignon from Darling Cellars.
was next. A nicely presented generous portion - definitely one to share!
The goat's cheese was smooth and creamy, with the walnuts and beetroot
adding a clever tasty touch!
Then came the Vegetable Tempura Selection served with sesame and
soy sauce. So simple, just perfect! Well, not sure what more there is to
say - probably the best tempura vegetables we've tasted! Seriously!
A little side order of Halloumi Fries with garlic yoghurt and pomegranate
landed next. Mmmmmoreish!!! Halloumi lovers, you definitely need to
try these!
Finally, the last dish to arrive was the Crispy Chilli Beef served with
fresh onions, pepper and chilli sauce. A classic dish that's so easy to get
wrong and too gloopy. But this was another home run - super fresh,
light, crunchy and delicious.
Feeling pretty full, we decided to skip dessert and try out a couple
of cocktails. Opting for a classic Pornstar Martini - you all know
this favourite, but what about an iconic Singapore Sling? Made with
Gin, Cherry brandy, Cointreau, Jagermeister, Grenadine, Angostura
bitters, pineapple juice and fresh lime. Boom! So refreshing and palate
cleansing!
A lot of places bang on about 'freshness', but honestly, this is the real
deal. Great work guys. Highly recommended.
There is a special lunchtime offer, weekdays between 12 and 4pm, two
small plates plus a side for just £12! Great value!
Then came The Tempura Fish Tacos served with mango salsa and
sriracha mayo. A lovely idea. The fish was buttery fresh, a great combo
of flavours - really impressed with this dish! If you are looking at holding a private function at The Wro, the Chefs
can work with you to design perfect menus from fabulous canapes to
sumptuous down dinners!
