IN BRIEF
BIRKENHEAD SCHOOL WELCOMES LUCY WORSLEY
THE MARTIN GALLIER PROJECT ANNOUNCE CHRISTMAS EVENT
Birkenhead School were delighted to recently welcome historian , curator and novelist , Lucy Worsley , where she gave a fascinating talk and signed copies of her new book as part of the School ’ s our Inspiring Talks Series , in association with Linghams Booksellers in Heswall .
The audience spent the evening listening to Lucy passionately discuss her new book ; Agatha Christie : A Very Elusive Woman , with such enthusiasm and grace as if she were discussing an old friend . Guests were in for a treat as Lucy gave great insight into the personal life of the best-selling author having accessed rarely seen personal letters and papers now in the possession of Agatha ’ s family .
Starting her talk by discussing the story of Agatha ’ s famous disappearance for 11 days in 1926 , Lucy kept the audience waiting until the very end to divulge the details which provided answers to the mystery . What happened ? You ’ ll have to read the book !
Lucy had the audience gripped and poised on the ends of their seats as she discussed Agatha ’ s private life and the trials and tribulations of her astonishing journey to success . Although some of her stories and insights into Agatha ’ s life were of great sadness , we were given a little comic relief with Lucy offering her humorous take on certain events which filled Bushell Hall with laughter .
Lucy painted Agatha as a woman who challenged conventions and divided opinions and her story is still so relevant today . Lucy well and truly brought the pages of her book to life and the evening was enjoyed by all .
Lucy is the latest speaker to visit the School as part of their Inspiring Talks Series . Previous speakers have been Restaurateur , Nisha Katona , as well as Chef and presenter , Rick Stein , and fitness guru , Joe Wicks , amongst others .
