STILL SHAMAZING ! NICOLE SCHERZINGER ON REUNITING WITH THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS
A member of one of the best-selling girl bands of all time . Nicole Scherzinger is best known as the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls . They sold more than 55 Million records worldwide , have been streamed more than 3 billion times and achieved eight UK top 10 singles .
After years of speculation , the Pussycat Dolls decided to reunite for a 2020 tour which , of course due to Covid-19 , has now been rescheduled . They will now be back with us at Manchester Arena on May 26th , 2021 in what will be , by then , a hotly anticipated tour . Wirral Life caught up with her .
Are you looking forward to getting back on stage with the girls ? We made our live return during the final of X Factor : Celebrity at the end of last year , where I have been a judge for many years now . We performed our new single ‘ React ’, and we were really excited about it with it being the Pussycat Dolls first new music in over a decade .
Your performance on the X Factor prompted an internet meltdown as it was dubbed much too sexy for prime-time TV . Did you know the fire that you were about to ignite with this performance ? No . We didn ' t . We heard that we got a lot of complaints . Those costumes , we put that together in three days and those outfits were a bit provocative , but we are women now . It takes a lot of courage to do it and we always do everything with confidence with the intent of empowering others for all us women out there and anyone who feels they relate to us .
You ’ re so busy how do you keep up ? It takes a lot for Nicole Scherzinger to burn out , in the past I ’ ve said you can never work too much .
The Pussycat Dolls – one of the best-selling girl groups ever - do you feel the pressure of that coming back again ? We had quite a machine behind it , so things happened very focused and very fast . They had their perfect candidate right here , because I am a workhorse . I just rolled up my sleeves , got in the studio and turned out these records . Before we were done , we had hits coming out . I worked so hard that I didn ’ t get to enjoy it before so it ' s great to be back .
I still love ‘ Don ’ t Cha ’ - I feel like it was the catalyst for us , like we were at the forefront of all that . I still think that song is a classic and it holds just as true today , the power behind it and it ’ s just fun , not taking yourself too seriously .
Are you really that sexy and cool as you come across in your videos ? I think there ’ s something to be said for leaving a little bit for the imagination . I ’ m a massive fan of all the cool kids out there , I ’ m not going to judge them . I just know , for myself , I like to try to be a little bit more , I don ’ t want to say demure , but along those lines .
I was born in Honolulu and grew up in Louisville in Kentucky . I was brought up Catholic and I still attend church at least twice a week , whether that ’ s in person or online . I was very conservative . I had really strong religious beliefs . I just wanted to make my mother proud .
Did you have problems with your body image then ? I did get a bit addicted that I was not taking care of myself . It was only when I was in my early 30s that I did something about it and started to put those issues behind me . I was told it was affecting my vocal cords , and it was a real awakening for me . In the end it has to be yourself that makes the change .
We all have a choice . We can choose to beat ourselves up or go back to those old patterns , or we can choose to learn and grow and evolve and be like I ’ m going to have to rewire my brain .
You ’ ve spoken recently about losing your cousin , who was killed in a hit and run accident , as one of the most difficult weeks of your life . Honestly , that week John Frederick died was probably one of my hardest weeks of my life . It ’ s just a horrible thing that I would never wish upon anyone else , and it haunts me every day . It ’ s hard to think that someone can take someone else ’ s life . I think we all hold responsibility , in everything in life . I ’ m mostly sad because I ’ ll never have my cousin back .
What are your thoughts on love ? Whatever you experience in life or relationships , you ' re obviously meant to grow from it and learn more about yourself . I think as women , we are still learning so much . There ' s a quote by Buddha that I like to live by , and it says something like - in the end three things matter : How much you loved , how gently you lived and like how kind and gracious and compassionate you are . You know , for us women , we ' re really hard on ourselves . Sometimes we get into situations , but I think if you really trust , you work on yourself and you have faith , just know that things are working for you , not against you and not at you .
Nicole Scherzinger is back performing with the Pussycat Dolls at Manchester Arena on May 26th , 2021 . Tickets are still available .
