IN BRIEF
FIRST WAVE OF HOUSING
RUBBER-STAMPED FOR
WIRRAL WATERS
Peel Land and Property has been given the green light
by the Cabinet of Wirral Council to build 500 high
quality new homes at Wirral Waters.
The £90m scheme, known as Wirral Waters One, will be the first
residential development on the former East Float dock and is a
significant step forward in the creation of a new neighbourhood
along Northbank. The Wirral Waters One project includes 100
affordable homes, facilitated by Legacy; a company set up to help
Local Authorities deliver affordable and revenue generating housing.
Through the Legacy deal, a further £100,000 will be granted to
the Legacy Sports and Education Foundation, Legacy’s charitable
arm, which will go towards supporting local sporting, youth and
education programmes in the Wirral. The entire project at Wirral
Waters One will include 500 one and two-bedroom apartments,
dock edge walkways, gardens and terraces for residents as well as
a sustainable urban drainage systems, pedestrian walkways and
cycleway connections. The design team has been led by Parkinson
Inc, the masterplanner for Wirral Waters, working with Glenn
Howells Architects, Re-form Landscape Architecture and Vectos
Transport Consultants with Turley acting as planning consultants.
The project will create a distinctive place, achieve a very high standard
of design quality and sustainability and provide a benchmark for
future residential development.
Wirral Waters One will be the frontrunner for a number of other
residential-led schemes along Northbank, including the development
of 347 modular homes by Peel and Urban Splash. Alongside the
residential schemes, other projects within Wirral Waters are on the
drawing board including a proposed £20m Maritime Knowledge
Hub, a proposed £3.5m amenity and arts hub, known as Egerton
Village, and a new £6m offices on Tower Road, all in close proximity
to the residential developments emerging along Northbank. Richard
Mawdsley, director of development at Peel Land and Property, said:
“The first residential quarter at Wirral Waters is becoming a reality.
Wirral Waters One will incorporate state of the art residential design
and innovation which will lead the way in making Wirral Waters an
incredible place to live.”
CHESHIRE FREEMASON
‘BIKERS’ RIDE IN TO
WALLASEY
It was an early start for a number of Cheshire Freemason
bikers, known as the Cheshire Widows Sons Masonic
Bikers Association (CWSMBA) as they gathered in
Wallasey for the start of their 188 mile ride around
Cheshire.
The tour took in 18 Masonic Halls, taking 10 hours and was designed to
raise awareness of the association among Cheshire Freemasons (any of
whom can join as long as they have an interest in motorbikes of course),
as well as raise funds for charity. The CWSMBA take their name from
ancient Masonic wording and are growing steadily in numbers.
Despite the awful weather conditions, the members were enthusiastically
greeted at each Hall and in many cases received a charitable donation.
The Bikers efforts were rewarded as they collected £860.00 on the day,
which, when added to funds they have already raised, makes a sizable
donation to the Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) Appeal.
The TLC Appeal is a Freemason initiative which provides approx.
12,000 Teddy Bears each year to Cheshire Hospitals. Hospital staff then
give them to children at times of distress when they find themselves on
a ward or in A and E.
‘Chapter’ President Harry Shone commented, “The aim of the ride
was to spread the word that we are now up and running, or should I
say riding, and I would like to thank everyone for the support given.
Despite the rain, we enjoyed every minute”.
Paul Massie, one of the leaders of Freemasonry in Cheshire said “I was
delighted when I first heard that some of the members wanted to start
a Masonic Bikers Association. Freemasons have many interests and it is
great to see those who want to, can now share their love of motorbikes
with the fun they get from being a Freemason. I wish them all the best
for the future and I am sure we will see and hear more from them as
they get back on the road in the coming months.”
