THE 68 TH ANNIVERSARY OF
THE FOUNDING PEOPLE
REPUBLIC OF CHINA
The People’s Republic of China was founded on 1
October 1949. Since then, celebrations of varying scales
occur on this National Day each year, October 1st.
This year, the Wah Sing Chinese Community Centre
and Chinese School celebrated the day a little differently,
showing off the refurbished Wah Sing on Duke Street.
The celebration started with a breathtaking traditional
Lion Dance and Martial Arts display from the Hung
Gar Kung Fu Club. Followed by The D’Ukes of Hazzard
Band.
The event was well attended with not only The Lord
Mayor, Cllr Malcom Kennedy and Lady Mayoress
Lianna Kennendy, but also the Young Lord Mayor
Anton Bibby and Junior Lord Mayor Freddie Hall.
A huge thanks to Jeffrey Dunn who saw a great
opportunity for the connection of the youngsters.
The Consulate of the People Republic of China from
Manchester Consul Shi Shu Ping was also in attendance.
A collection bucket was sent around and raised £317.54
for the Lord Mayor charities.
