The smiles from the excited children alone when they lay eyes on these amazing
vehicles says more than a hundred words, if not a hundred miles an hour.
The excited petrolheads gathered in numbers doubling up with their children and
partners brought the day to a stop start beginning. Unsure about the early morning
weather, it was a great sight to see Richard Clapham from Lexus Liverpool appear
in a gleaming ‘fresh from the factory’ Lexus LC500. A beautifully sculpted sports
coupé or berlinetta, meaning ‘a body with a sloping roof ’, sometimes sloping
downwards gradually in the rear with normally 2 doors with 2 + 2 seats. So that’s 2
luxurious sport seats at the front and 2 shorter bucket seats at the back. You could
say it’s Japan’s quintessential vehicle type for an elegant, exclusive and glamorous
kind of existence. It boasts 3.5- Litre V6 petrol- electric/ Hybrid or a powerful
5.0-Litre atmospheric V8 engine. This should rival luxury sports coupés like the
Mercedes S Class Coupé or Porsche Panamera. The Lexus with its stark and stella
styling looks very different from the norm. And I don’t mean me.
This grand tourer was proudly standing in front of the Chung Ku restaurant with
a large collection of vintage, sports and eclectic 80s vehicles. A mixed bag shall we
say to suit all kinds of motorheads.
Les Durran (who suffers from Parkinson’s) and his fellow Ford Owners received a
warm welcome that day as Cars and Coffee Liverpool chose to support Parkinson’s
UK ran by Sarah Green the North West regional fundraiser. Les, who I’m sure we
mentioned in a previous article in Wirral Life - arrived in his beautiful Mexico
Blue Ford Mk1 Escort in style along with many retro eighties Fords, from a MK5
Cortina to a MK3 Capri all modded subtly under the bonnet. A talking point that
day with fellow enthusiasts and modders. The array of Fords certainly would give
Bodie and Doyle a field day in the old TV series The Professionals - C15.
