CELEBRATE FOUR YEARS IN STYLE
The Paradox Restaurant & Bar in Heswall hosted the Paul Lavelle Foundation ( PLF ) for their Le Somme and annual celebrations on Saturday the 19th of November .
The PLF were celebrating their fourth very successful year as a registered charity . The house was packed with PLF supporters and their families to reflect on the diverse range of activities the organisation now offers . The PLF was formed in 2017 in memory of Paul Lavelle to highlight male domestic abuse and the service is focused on recovery , designed to provide a person-centred blend of Therapeutic , Advocacy , Advice and Link-Worker / Signposting support activities . Alongside this support the PLF have formed Running , Cycling and Swimming clubs , bringing together hundreds of people in health , wellbeing , and sporting challenges . These achievements were highlighted on a film of their 2022 celebration of memories including the Grizedale Marathon , Moel Famau Marathon , Jason Williams completion of the Marathon Des Sables , the Liverpool Half Marathon , Mark Lennon ’ s triple Marathon success in London , Dublin & New York . Kay Nayland on her Chester Marathon success , Karen Gladwell completed the Snowdonia Marathon . The hundred runners taking part in the PLF 10K , Dave Sands Ironman UK , The BIG Welsh swim , Ullswater 8 mile , Lyn Padarn , The Mighty River Mersey and many more team and individual successes . A film was also shown to celebrate the teams epic cycle success from June this year when over 50 PLF friends cycled from the Wirral to the Somme in poignant ‘ Friendship & Remembrance ’ fundraising challenge to honour those lost in the WWI battles of 1916 . This raised over £ 20,000.00 for various charities including PLF , Claire House and Alder Hey Children ’ s Hospital .
Sharne Williams , the Charity Development Manager and event organiser said ‘ We are so proud of how far we have come in such a short time . We now also offer Support for young people between the ages of 10 – 18 years , who have experienced domestic abuse through our Healthy Relationship Education programme , this help ’ s children and young people as a preventative measure using an hour-long ‘ Fair Play ’ workshop in schools , colleges and other children and young person setting . We also provide our unique ‘ Who ’ s in Charge ?’ Educational Workshops . A nine-week child to parent violence ( CPV ) programme aimed at parents whose children are being abusive or violent toward them or who appear out of parental control ’.
PLF Trustee Steve McHugh , also added : " You can see from all the activities , support , and achievement ’ s again this year , that the PLF continues to thrive as an important service for the community . With this success we hope to reach and help more people and young people to create better circumstances and lives for themselves ."
