LOUISE FUDGE EXPANDS TO NEW HESWALL LOCATION
Wirral Life talk to Louise of Heswall based salon , Louise Fudge , about her new expansion , business and vision for the future .
Congratulations Louise on your new beautiful salon . Why did you decide to go bigger ? Thank you so much I feel very lucky . As the business was growing , we outgrew the other unit , the world of hairdressing is moving at a fast pace , and I feel it ’ s my duty to our clients and my team to keep up to speed with the latest experiences and techniques . As a colour focused salon our clients can be in the salon for up to 4 hours so it ’ s our job to ensure they are comfortable and happy , a lot of work is done at the backwash , so we ’ ve increased now to 5 basins . I wanted to create space and comfort for all our guests ; Covid also created a lot of remote workers to the salon so our clients can work comfortably without being disturbed .
What can your clients expect in this wonderful new salon ? I really wanted to create a different ambience in this salon to bring in more light with a 5 star hotel feel but also with a practical approach for my team to work efficiently and professionally . The space is air conditioned with relaxing music , massage chairs at the backwashes , fresh fruit and a long list of refreshments all for your comfort . Soundproof doors to separate the quiet zen of the salon to the colour bar and staff room where the team mix and create in their bespoke fully stocked colour bar .
What type of person visits Louise Fudge ? Our guests are primarily clients who want the very best colour specialists working on their hair . We have actresses , models , influencers , women at the top of their game , to the wonderful carers of the NHS doctors , nurses , from councillors to scientists , lawyers and everyone in between from 18 to 80 plus !! Everyone is welcome . My dad is 84 years old and comes up from London for very fine blonde foils to blend his greys ! It ’ s the best part of the job meeting all these incredible people . We aim to create bespoke colours to compliment our clients skin tone and lifestyle . Our consultations are lengthy so we get to know what you do and how we can achieve the very best look for you . We never over promise and under achieve . We are realistic and together we work to a colour journey some get there faster than others . We are honoured that our guests travel far for our services , London , North Wales , Cumbria , Manchester . If you find someone who colours your hair well , you will travel and Heswall is not far from the motorway .
What do you think the biggest misconceptions are in your industry ? That all hair salons are the same , they ’ re not . We are colour specialists which means we specialise in many colour techniques and methods . We run a fully stocked colour bar with over 300 colours with regular stock checks so we never run out . We educate our team with multiple courses around the country also with Redken Educators that come on site to keep us up to date with the latest techniques and new formulas . We ' re very lucky to have a team that ’ s open to learning and upskilling essentially creating the next generation of colourists for Heswall . We also cut and do blow dries and work alongside Andrew Collinge Training to train our apprentices and I myself trained with Andrew Collinge .
Why did you choose the hair industry as a career after your time in the music industry ? Good question ! After being in a girl group and having multiple hair stylists do my hair , I found that getting my hair coloured correctly was particularly hard and it didn ’ t matter where I went or how much I paid it was never right ! It ' s definitely helped that I ’ ve been a client and sat in the chair so I totally understand the anxiety and frustration some clients experience when its not right .
How has your business been affected post covid and with the current climate ? We were the busiest we ’ ve ever been coming out the national lockdown dealing with correcting home colour jobs gone wrong and ladies wanting to “ embracing the grey ” to be honest we still are , we are very lucky with how busy we are .
What ' s the secret to your success ? Consistency ... When I opened my first salon in Little Sutton in 2015 I was using Redken , I wasn ’ t making any profit I was doing it for the love of what I do , I knew my knowledge within the brand and my commitment to learning would one day pay off and 8 years later I feel it has . I surround myself with positive people with good attitudes . We ’ re all extremely passionate about what we do and it shows , myself and my team are dedicated to giving the best service and learning to improve our skills on a daily basis this , is the only way we can grow as a salon and team , we here at Louise Fudge Colour Specialists we want you to love your hair all the time not just when you leave the salon that is the most important thing to us , then we know we have done our job .
What ' s next for Louise Fudge in 2023 ? I really want to explore education online and do workshops for hair stylists and colourists wanting to open their mind to further knowledge and techniques . I feel with being in the industry for 20 years I have learnt a lot and still learning , I have met some of the greatest teachers along the way and feel together we can offer a great learning experience in a fabulous location . I may even do some workshops for our guests to learn , ‘ how to look after your hair at home ’, or a ‘ teach your partner to blowdry ’ course .
