But my name is not Manuel , it ’ s Santiago . My friends though call me : “ Santi , would you like a glass of wine ?” Yes , a glass of wine is good for you and too many … it can be , depending who you are sharing with .
I am a full time GP ( which obviously means a Great Person ).
I arrived on the Wirral in 1997 behind a pair of lovely British legs , of course , what else would bring a Spaniard to the UK , the weather ?
I did my training as a GP in Barcelona and moved to Mallorca to become a Paediatrician . After moving to our peninsula I worked over the water for a while and I had to learn Scouse quickly . You should ' ve seen my face the first time that a patient said to me : “ Doc , I have a problem with my ticker ” ( I thought it was a new organ that only Brits have …).
I have been a GP Trainer for many years , teaching is my passion . In 2012 , whilst working on the interface GP-Paeds , I found out that we had 2 blind children on the Wirral because the GPs missed the red reflex on the 6 weeks baby examination . I contacted the RCGP ( Royal College of GP ) and organised to update all the Wirral GPs on the 6 weeks baby check . I was given the RCGP Mersey Faculty GP Award in 2014 .

I was the Named Wirral GP for Safeguarding Children for more than 10 years and in 2018 , I was made FRCGP ( Fellow of the Royal College of GP ), you cannot go higher than this I thought , until I met the Wirral Life Team …
They asked me to do a column answering your questions and with my 30 years of GP experience , I think I will be able to help . No question is too silly or not important , if it ’ s important to you .
And do you want to know what is the question that they are asking me most as a GP ? Well , it depends if you are male or female . Men are obsessed with their prostates ( which is good ) and the pub conversation is always about if the examination hurts . Females , in view of my Mediterranean skin and green eyes they ask me if I am single . My answer is yes to all the above .
