THE TIM COGLEY CARDIAC SCREENING FOUNDATION
The King of Hearts Lost In April 2017 the Wirral , and in particular Heswall , was shocked by the sudden & tragic death of Tim Cogley . He was a healthy , non-smoker who played football regularly , yet suddenly suffered a heart attack which proved fatal . Tim was well loved and an active member of the local community , whose life was cut short aged just 34 . The heart attack was caused by a cholesterol blockage in his artery , yet presented no symptoms .
Frustratingly , a relatively straight forward test could have identified this issue , yet very little pro-active screening currently takes place . In an attempt to prevent this happening to other apparently health young adults , his family and friends decided to set up a foundation in his name .
The aim was to raise awareness of the need for coronary heart screening , in particular amongst young adults in the 18 to 39 age group , to ensure that screening was available in the Wirral and surrounding areas and to provide education around key health indicators and healthy lifestyle choices .
The Foundation To date the Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation has screened thousands of young adults and found over thirty cases , similar to Tim ’ s . Without the foundation there ’ s a good probability that they would have suffered the same fate as Tim .
The foundation relies wholly on the kindness of the public to donate , with 100 % of all donations being used to provide screening , awareness & education .
Danny ’ s Epic Fundraiser Tim ’ s good friend , Danny Leonard , was out with Tim on the night he died , so decided that he would undertake a mammoth
challenge to raise funds for the charity . Danny , an ex-marine , is currently travelling on foot from John O ’ Groats at the very top of Scotland , some 874 miles to the very bottom of England , Land ’ s End . This is one of the only charity events we can organise during this pandemic with the ever changing tiers and lockdown restrictions .
As if this isn ’ t a big enough challenge , he is aiming to run 40 marathons over the course of 45 days , together with climbing the three peaks Ban Nevis , Scafell Pike and Snowden . He is carrying a tent and all his equipment on his back as many nights he will be camping out . For most of us , any one of those challenges would be huge , but all three is an incredible feat . The foundation is incredibly proud and indebted to Danny for this selfless act .
Several Wirral businesses have supported his quest by providing clothing , equipment , media & press support , branded support vehicles & even some accommodation along the way .
Get Involved As we go to press Danny is around half way thorough his journey ; but the national lockdown has cut him short . Danny is hoping to restart in December , but we will have to wait to see how & when restrictions ease . We ’ ll keep you informed , but in the meantime we ’ re welcoming businesses to sponsor sections of the journey , promote the challenge or simply make a donation .
Of course we would be very grateful to you , our readers , if you could spare a few moments to offer a donation , of any size by visiting our Virgin Money Giving page : uk . virginmoneygiving . com / JOGtoLE
