YOUNG CHAMBER CAREER AND SKILLS SHOW 2020
Wirral Young Chamber Skills Show is set to take place in
March, as part of National Careers Week 2020 and will be
held at the Hive Youth Zone in Birkenhead.
Since being launched in November 2015, Young Chamber
has made a positive impact on schools and students alike in
developing skills and attributes to prepare young people for
work after they leave school.
The 2019 skills show broke the previous year’s attendance,
attracting over 1,400 young students and over 200 business
people – making it not only Wirral’s largest skills show but
also the largest across the Liverpool City Region.
Paula Basnett, CEO, Wirral Chamber of Commerce said “We
want exhibitors from Wirral and across the Liverpool City
Region, representing a broad spectrum of growth sectors
including engineering, healthcare, media, technology and
manufacturing.”
“Research indicates that almost two thirds of employers in the
region have problems finding skilled staff. One third of North
West firms report difficulty in hiring staff with technical and
job-specific skills and a quarter say it is hard to recruit people
with basic computer literacy.”
“The young people of Wirral deserve to know what
opportunities are available to them locally, and we want
businesses to step up and show students what can be achieved

on their own doorstep while potentially reducing their skills
gap within businesses.”
Jane Hayes, Head of Skills & Education added “Previous
years have shown a lot of growth for the Wirral Young
Chamber Skills Show, and 2020 will be no different. Students
are becoming wiser to what they want to achieve in their
future at a younger age, and the Skills Show doesn’t just show
inspiration to what jobs are available but gives the opportunity
for business people to offer guidance on what qualifications
and skill sets are best suited to roles.”
If your business or organisation has taken part in any of our
previous Skills Shows, you’ll recognise that Wirral Chamber
take a different approach to the average Careers Fair. We
make sure our events are as interactive, ‘hands on’ and exciting
as possible but we can’t do this without you and therefore we
would be thrilled to have you involved.
