CARING TO CREATE A LASTING PIECE OF HISTORY
CARING TO CREATE A LASTING PIECE OF HISTORY
Imaginative local school children have pictured how life will look in 60 years ’ time when they visited the site of what will be a stunning new care home in the heart of Pensby .
Donning hard hats and high visibility vests , a group of pupils from Pensby Primary School visited the location of the new Ridgewood Court Residential Care Home in Ridgewood Drive , which will be run by Sanctuary Care .
The youngsters , Francesca Cimmino , Jamie Garner and Lorna McCrone , were invited for an exclusive sneak preview of the home to get inspiration for artwork which will go in a time capsule to be buried on the site .
The pupils will now create their own masterpieces depicting what they imagine life to be like in 60 years ’ time and to tell people about life in 2017 .
They will return to the site after the Christmas holidays and place their creations in the time capsule prior to the home opening next year .
Talking about life in the future , 10-year-old Jamie said : “ I think technology will be a lot ‘ smarter ’ and smaller .”
Meanwhile Francesca , who is also 10 , added : “ I think there will be more robot-like technology , especially for older people .”
Lorna , aged 11 , concluded : “ I think fashion will make people look younger .”
Head teacher Kate Brown said the youngsters were thrilled about the prospect of creating artwork for the future generation . “ I am very proud of the children – they will go back to the school to talk to their fellow pupils and put a plan together about what to include in the capsule .”
“ When we have visited care homes before , you can see the joy felt by the children and the residents and it breaks down barriers of age which is really important .”
The children also had the opportunity to meet Simon Doherty , Ridgewood Court ’ s home manager . He commented : “ It was such an honour to meet the children – involving the next generation in the future of our home is so important .
“ Sanctuary Care embraces intergenerational projects because they are wonderful for both the older and younger generations . I am really looking forward to seeing the completed artwork and welcoming the children back to Ridgewood Court to share some very special memories with our residents and the team .”
The home , which is set to open in spring 2018 , will offer residential and residential dementia care and will feature 60 spacious en-suite bedrooms , light and airy open plan lounge and dining areas , an on-site café , hairdressing and beauty salon and a themed cinema room .
