W NEWS L CELEBRITIES LAUNCH THE LIVERPOOL SANTA DASH CHARITY BALL RAISES £104,000 FOR RADIO CITY’S CASH FOR KIDS Fundraising supremo’s Mandy Molby, Claire Gallagher and Trudi Brook hosted their annual charity Ball on Saturday night in aid of Radio City’s Cash for Kids. A group of 40 Santas have toured the city on an open-top bus to launch this year’s Liverpool Santa Dash. The countdown is now on to the Liverpool Santa Dash taking place on Sunday, 4 December – the UK’s biggest festive fun run and this is its 13th year. It was a case of all aboard when a whole host of familiar faces including actors from Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Benidorm and Love Island hopped onto the Liverpool City Sights open-top bus with Father Christmas to take the Santa Dash message on the road. Organisers BTR Liverpool are encouraging Santas to sign up to make the 5K festive fun run bigger than ever before in a bid to win back the world title from Las Vegas. More than 1,500 Santas have already registered. The Radio City Liverpool Santa Dash starts at Pier Head Liverpool at 9.30am and finishes outside Liverpool Town Hall. After dashing round the city, the Santas collect a commemorative medal when they complete the fun run. A Santa suit is included in the entry fee. The little ones also have their very own fun run – the 1K Mini Dash is for youngsters aged 12 and under. It starts in Castle Street when the main Santa Dash has finished, and also finishes at Liverpool Town Hall. From now until 3 December, participants can call in to either Rapid Discount Outlet in Liverpool city centre or the BTR office at 82 Market Street, Hoylake, to sign up and collect their Santa suit. Or Santas can register online at www.btrliverpool.com The fun-packed evening, held at Thornton Hall Hotel left guests stunned and thrilled when the grand total of £104,000 was announced. Cash for Kids Ambassador, Mandy Molby said “Claire, Trudi and I are completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the guests who came to our Ball. Never in our wildest dreams, in the current economic climate did we dare to dream we would raise in excess of £100,000. This money will literally change lives for so many disadvantaged children in our area and we cannot thank all those who came along, sponsored the event, donated prizes or bought raffle tickets enough for their support” THE FRIENDS OF DAWSTONE PARK FLY THE GREEN FLAG Heswall’s Dawstone Park has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag. The Friends, who have worked tirelessly to achieve and maintain its high standard, celebrated by running the flag up the flagstaff. Paul Leidecker, chairman of the group, said “We’re delighted to have been chosen to receive the Green Flag. Dawstone Park is a great public amenity, and well used. We hope that the families of Heswall will continue to enjoy it.” wirrallife.com 7
