OUTDOOR THEATRE ON WIRRAL TO CREATE A STORM !
For the first time in three years , we ’ ll be able to enjoy Shakespeare on a summer ’ s evening as the Hillbark Players return with a steampunk version of The Tempest .
They ’ re heading to Royden Park next month with the story of shipwreck and magic , which will be staged at a purpose-built 510- seat theatre in the woods . It ’ s the company ’ s 28th major production – and the first since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
And the weather won ’ t stop this one , as all the seats at the outdoor venue are under cover . It ’ s only the actors who occasionally get wet ! Performances run from Monday June 20th to Saturday June 25th , with an additional afternoon matinee on the final day .

Set on an island , The Tempest ' s scenery will feature the prow of a dreadnought ship , as well as a cave inhabited by the beastly Caliban . He is being played by Hillbark Players veteran Charles Riley , who is going full method by having his head shaved to portray the half-human , half-monster . Other cast members include Carl Howard in the pivotal role as magician Prospero and Sarah Randall who plays his daughter , Miranda .
Hillbark Players is the longest established open-air Shakespeare company in the North-West and has been delighting audiences since 1964 .
