WIRRAL CARE HOME CELEBRATES
75th D-DAY ANNIVERSARY
Residents and staff at a Wirral care home will be
holding an afternoon tea party for friends and
families to commemorate 75 years since D-Day.
The Hazelwell, a residential, nursing, palliative and
respite care home in Heswall, will be opening its doors
on Thursday, June 6th at 2.30pm to host a celebration
with tea, cakes and musical entertainment, to mark the
anniversary of the Allied invasion of France during the
Second World War.
D-Day took place on June 6, 1944, when 156,000
British, American and Canadian troops landed on five
Normandy beaches along a 50-mile stretch of French
coastland, marking the start of the battle which has been
cited as the beginning of the end of the war in Europe.
The Hazelwell’s afternoon entertainment will be popular
music from through the years, with a particular focus
on war-time favourites, which will be enjoyed with tea
and homemade cakes baked by the care home’s own chef
Mark Cowper.
The Hazelwell care home manager Sue Ball said:
“We wanted to do something special to celebrate the
75th anniversary of D-Day as many of our residents
remember living through the Second World War and the
impact D-Day had on the events of the war.
“At The Hazelwell we feel it is important to take these
moments to give everyone a chance to reflect on the
events of their lives, and to tell their stories of when they
were younger. Often, we find that anniversaries such as
this bring back memories that might have been buried
for a long time. We are looking forward to a lovely
friendly celebration.”
