MICHELIN GUIDE LISTING A SILVER LINING FOR THE TEAM …
BY PAUL ASKEW , CHEF PATRON OF THE ART SCHOOL RESTAURANT
The 100 days of January , or at least it felt like that ! are long behind us and February seemed to have passed at a more suitable speed . The team and I have been kept busy by your , very much appreciated , support of our Valentine ’ s day at home boxes and the other culinary creations we work hard to deliver for you .
The hospitality industry has changed and adapted to the current situation we find ourselves in , not least the annual Michelin Guide awards . No black-tie gala dinner , no glossy guide but the most coveted of all culinary awards still managed to deliver a ceremony of sorts , virtual over Zoom and a digital , rather than printed version of the guide .
The team and I are once again delighted to be included with a Good food score and the highest rating in the city for comfort of surroundings . A silver lining to the team and I , and although only a few new stars were awarded on the evening I was delighted for my good friend , and former guest Chef at the restaurant , Tom Brown , who with his Cornerstone Restaurant , collected his first Michelin star .
I hope to invite Tom back to the restaurant for a follow up guest chef evening in 2021 , indeed I ’ m using the time to prepare a series of special events and evenings in the restaurant , Moriarty room and Cellars . Our restaurant Manager and Head Sommelier Sarah has been busy arranging wine tasting evenings and the Cellars team will , as soon as we are able , recommence the hugely popular Georgian Gin club . The restaurant will host guest Chefs and a number of winemakers dinners too , the details of which will be in our monthly newsletter .
For now , thoughts turn to Mothering Sunday , we have put together a special menu for you to spoil your mums at home . These are available to order and will be offered alongside our afternoon tea and Sunday dinner boxes .
We continue to develop our Emporium and Art School at home offer for your enjoyment , in these uncertain times they offer the opportunity for you to enjoy the best of the Art School and offer us a much-needed income stream .
We await , with anticipation and eagerness , the change in the seasons and welcome the arrival of Spring . Let ’ s hope that with the new season comes better news for us all and , when it ’ s safe to do so , a return to welcoming you and your loved ones back .
Much love to you all , Chef Askew
