It would be a very boring world if everybody liked the same new cars and the same classic cars that visit Cars and Coffee Liverpool. Not everyone is blessed with the cars that they like, that doesn’t mean it’s not fun to dream. The same way you would drool over a Lamborghini or an E Type Jag, it’s enjoyable to experience the variety of wonderful cars in the community here and wonder... what if? Well, wonder no more as we assemble a collection of cars and enthusiastic owners that come together every month to fulfil those desires. Regardless of what other people think of the exclusivity of the sports, classic, and supercars which are welcome to the meeting, we have to acknowledge that it's a meeting where we see things that are really out of the ordinary. The February meeting started out foggy yet dry and we attracted a clear run of 500 vehicles. Every month we have too many star cars to pitch, but the newest and never seen before - was the Ariel Nomad. What is it? Ariel, a British car maker, produced the Ariel Atom, a 2 seater track focused kit car built from a tubular space frame weighting 612kg. The Nomad is the off-road version. This is a crazy looking buggy, think Tonka or Tamiya Hornet. The car is powered by a 2.4-litre, long-stroke four- cylinder Honda engine (used in high-end versions of the Accord) configured with Ariel electronics to produce 235bhp at 7200rpm. The result is a car with an on-road 0-60mph sprint time of just 3.4sec and a 125mph top speed. Its torque output of 221lbft is especially impressive as it matches that of the supercharged 2.0-litre Atom, which is one of the fastest cars on the road. Remember the movie Bullitt? Starring Steve McQueen in his 1968 mustang GT fastback on the streets of San Francisco. Well, John Murphy brought his newly purchased 2018 Ford Mustang, a 50th anniversary Bullitt Mustang that revives the legend. With an upgraded 5.0-litre V8 engine but upgrades push power and torque to 458bhp and 388lbft respectively helping the car deliver a 163mph top speed, in Dark Highland Green paint and ultra-modern, performance inspired interior. A manual six-speed gearbox with rev-matching technology is the sole transmission available and this directs power to the rear wheels through a torsen limited-slip differential courtesy of the standard-fit, Performance Package. Also part of the package are: heavy-duty front springs, a K-brace, a thicker rear anti-roll bar and Brembo brakes. The active valve performance exhaust – an option on the GT – has been specially tuned to deliver a deeper note that’s more akin to the original car. The dark highland green paint finish and Torque Thrust 19-inch wheels – shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres – ape the 1968 Mustang Bullitt, while other design cues inspired by the original include the chrome-surrounded, black grille and windows. As curator of the event, we paired a 1970s old Ford Mustang with John’s new Mustang Bullitt educating the young how the original one started. But again there was a lot of distraction this month as interesting cars appeared through the gate one after another. In a previous article, we mentioned Lawrence Cookson’s pastel blue Lamborghini Aventador SV - well, he appeared again with another fellow Lamborghini owner Brian Owen in a newly registered if not one of the first Lamborghini Aventador SVJ in the UK in a Gary Glitter purple model that stole the audience! Anyway, enough and enjoy the pictures! The chosen charity for this month was The McVeigh Foundation. A big thanks to all our motoring members, amazing friends and supporters, the Cars and Coffee Liverpool team Terry Alan Barnett, John Kane, Matthew Eaton, Anthony Weaver, Luke Jordan, Jimmy Rutledge, Charalene Lee and her Coffee family and CCL friends! You may have an idea what you want, perhaps a brand or type of car, but there are a whole lot of cars out there and pitfalls too.
