Do you have any famous patients? I ' ve treated many famous sports people and celebrities but I would not divulge who they are. We are more professional than that. And besides, every patient I see is special to me.
Being known as a top dentist and a clinician who is passionate about aesthetic dentistry, explain to us what the difference is between cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry? That ' s a great question. Did you know there is no such thing as a " Cosmetic Dentist " as there are no formal qualifications and any dentist can promote themselves as one without any further training? This is the reason I took my Master ' s Degree as a large proportion of it was training in Aesthetic Dentistry.
The Greek origins of the word“ cosmetic” means jewel, jewellery or adornment and therefore implies something that is fake or man-made. Going further, more often than not, you can tell when someone has had cosmetic treatment as it does not look natural. Instead,“ aesthetic” derives from a Greek word meaning the feeling and perception of nature and organic formations.
Therefore, aesthetic transformations are those that aim to mimic and recreate nature, i. e natural human appearances. That means that aesthetic dentistry aims to give the patient the best naturallooking result creating an improved, but seamless transformation.
Think Rylan Clark versus Kate Middleton.
Rylan has had aggressive porcelain work with a heavy artificial style, the other has had subtle but clever aesthetic dentistry to maximise her natural look.
What type of work do you do the most of? What’ s the most popular treatment people come in and want to have done? Our most popular treatment at the moment is what I call " The 3 B’ s”: B- Braces B- Bleaching B- Bonding. In my opinion, our smile can be de-constructed into 3 components that each interact:
• Position of Teeth
• Shade of Teeth
• Shape of Teeth
The 3 B’ s deal with each component in turn to maximise a patient ' s natural dentition. Safely, simply, quickly and without any irreversible damage to the teeth.
You have just been announced as Liverpool’ s platinum provider of Quick Straight Teeth. Tell us more about this. As I mentioned earlier, we use Braces to align the teeth into a more aesthetic position. At Pall Mall, we use QST( Quick Straight Teeth) ceramic brackets to achieve this. I love QST as it ' s fast( 3-6 months usually), painless, and discreet. I ' ve used other systems in the past but this one beats them all hands down for speed and value for money. To celebrate us becoming a Platinum Provider, we are holding an event on Thursday 12th April and invite people to come along for a free consultation and we have a special offer of up to £ 500 off the cost of treatment. People can book on at www. pallmalldental. com / promotions /.
Having the perfect smile has become increasingly more popular in our society. What should the average patient be careful about when seeking a dentist? Protect yourself and your teeth by taking your time. Go and see at least 3 clinicians and ask plenty of questions. Can they show you any of their work? Do you yourself know anyone who has been? Don ' t always choose on the basis of price( high or low). Ask about the risks of treatment and all the negatives as these are more important than the positives. Have they done any further qualifications in this field? Quiz them on their knowledge particularly with regards to your smile in terms of what is wrong with it and what would they do to improve it. They should be very specific and ideally should take a photo of your smile and analyse it for you.
One piece of advice you would give to readers about looking after their teeth? Don ' t drink sugary drinks too often in the day( It ' s the frequency of consumption that causes decay) and use a decent electric toothbrush.
