SPIRE MURRAYFIELD HOSPITAL WIRRAL
WINS PRESTIGIOUS LEADERSHIP AWARD
The management team at Spire Murrayfield Hospital Wirral has been
awarded a prestigious leadership award by the Spire Health Group PLC
at its annual conference. development of existing staff. This year, three of Spire Murrayfield’s health
care assistants have been accepted on to the Royal Nursing Apprenticeship
Programme, which is being funded by the hospital.
Spire Murrayfield Wirral’s Hospital Director, Philip Oehley and Linda
Ormson, Matron and Head of Clinical Services received the award from
Alison Dickinson, Group Clinical Director at Spire Group PLC, after she
had visited the hospital in the months prior to the awards. Philip said: "In addition to investing in our clinical services and facilities,
we also want to attract and retain the best talent possible and we are
investing across all of our teams."
The hospital received the award in recognition of the programme of
transformation which has been delivered by the team at the hospital.
Hospital Director Philip Oehley joined Spire Murrayfield Hospital Wirral
in January 2018. Philip said: "The whole team was delighted to win this
award, which is recognition of the steps we have taken to improve the
service offered here at Spire Murrayfield Wirral.
"Our ultimate goal is to be recognised as the private health care provider
of choice in Wirral, North Wales, Cheshire and the Liverpool Region" said
Philip. "In order to achieve this, we have delivered a range of improvements
to our clinical team, facilities and services we offer. We have also looked at
ways in which we can make our services more accessible to more people
from our local communities."
The Spire Murrayfield team has strengthened its orthopaedic, pain
management, ophthalmic, breast, plastics, ENT, gastroenterology and
endocrinology teams. The hospital currently offers more than 300
treatments using the latest and most advanced technology. Spire has also
invested in the facilities including brand new, state of the art outpatient
ophthalmology equipment, completing a programme of refurbishment to
the bedrooms, the operating theatres and outpatient’s suite. Improvements
have also been made to the restaurant and catering facilities.
Steps have also been taken to make Spire Murrayfield’s services increasingly
accessible. Philip said: "At Spire Murrayfield Hospital Wirral, we ensure
that our patients can be seen by a leading consultant within 24 hours –
which eases the pain of long waiting lists. Furthermore, we recognise that
more patients are now self-financing their treatment plan. We are pleased
to now offer an interest free finance programme to assist patients in paying
for their treatment."
Philip and his team are also investing in their people. The hospital is
recruiting new consultants to join their team and investing in training and

Finally, Spire is implementing a range of initiatives to continue to develop
the rapport between the Spire team and their patients. The hospital has
recently signed up to "Hello, My Name is…" (#hellomynameis) campaign,
an initiative founded by the late Dr Kate Granger MBE and her husband,
Chris Pointon, as a result of Dr Granger’s own experience of patient care
when she was terminally ill with cancer. Having observed that many of
the staff looking after her failed to introduce themselves, Kate decided to
launch a campaign to encourage and remind healthcare staff about the
importance of introductions in healthcare.
Since "Hello, My Name is…" was launched in 2013, it has won the
backing of hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals, along with
politicians, celebrities and NHS Trusts. It also boasts an annual awareness
day, every year on the 23rd July.
Every member of the Spire Murrayfield Hospital community recognises the
importance of this campaign.
Linda Ormson, Matron and Head of Clinical Services said: “Patients
are anxious enough when they are admitted to hospital and a friendly
introduction personalises them and establishes an instant rapport with
members of staff – whatever their role is.”
Philip said: "Our mission is simple. It is to bring together the best people,
dedicated to developing excellent clinical environments and delivering the
highest quality patient care. We will continue to invest in our people and
facilities to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of care."
