WIRRAL CARE HOME CELEBRATES D-DAY
Residents and staff at a Wirral care home
held a special afternoon tea party for friends
and families to commemorate 75 years since
D-Day earlier this month.
The Hazelwell, a residential, nursing, palliative
and respite care home in Heswall, opened its
doors on June 6 with tea, cakes and musical
entertainment, to mark the anniversary of the
Allied invasion of France during the Second
World War.
The Hazelwell’s afternoon entertainment
featured popular music, including many war-
time favourites, which were enjoyed with tea
and homemade cakes baked by the care home’s
own chef Mark Cowper and his team.
The Hazelwell care home manager Sue Ball
said: “We wanted to do something special
to celebrate the 75th anniversary of D-Day
as many of our residents remember living
through the Second World War.
“At The Hazelwell, we feel it is important to
take these moments to give residents a chance
to reflect on milestone events that happened
during their lives, and to tell their stories of
when they were younger.
“It was a fantastic day and it was so wonderful
to see so many of the residents’ friends and
family come along to the day too. Everyone
had a fantastic time.”
