W L WELLBEING WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM LOCKDOWN? By Alison Quinn What did you learn from lockdown? Did your life change in an incredible way or did you just have to carry on as normal? I think I have literally spoken to at least one person with every conceivable version of events over the last 3 months... I would love to hear from you! For me I learned that I have business survival skills, being self employed and in the beauty and wellness industry, my daily business of meeting with clients literally disappeared over night! Of course I panicked and worried for what the future might bring for me and my lovely business that I have built over the last 21 years like so many business owners did at that point in time, but do you know what I had a good old think about it and realised I’d just have to get on with it... being an entrepreneur runs in my family, if you are a regular reader of Wirral Life you will have seen my brother Jonathan, and his many innovations he has introduced over the last few years. We work with what we have available, we search for the people who can help us achieve our goals and we work hard to achieve them. Now what did I have at my disposal?? An internet connection, free time and my phone! It might not have been rocket science but it 100% enabled me to focus on the online parts of my business, skincare, haircare, makeup, suncare, all vegan, cruelty and toxin free (very important in the current climate where people are looking after their immune systems and are concerned for their impact on their environment both at home and globally!), crystals and chakra balancing products and services. I was able to connect with the 1000’s of people I have met over the last 20 years doing a job that I love, I never use or promote something that I wouldn’t use or didn’t love myself, and my contacts and customers know that I am sincere, honest, loyal and true. That in itself led so many people to contact me to see if I could help them with their own business ideas, I love to help people get off the ground with either the tiny idea of a business that they have just formulated or something they have been nurturing for years and just not had the right time, advice or confidence to reach out to someone to help get them started. Luckily for me I have in my network a whole host of business experts whether you need help with the practical side like building websites or how to use social media most effectively, branding, accountancy, all the bricks and mortar bits of a new business but also one of the most important things you can learn when starting or developing any business is mindset, how you feel about your self can spur you on or hold you back! For me I have stepped out of my own comfort zone and gotten to grips with Facebook lives and Instagram story videos! Not something I thought I needed to do 4 months ago, now I use them daily to enable me to interact with my audience and connect with more people that I ever could previously! I love them, it might be me looking a bit daft on the other side of the phone screen but I am getting the loveliest feedback from people saying it’s given them confidence to push themselves out of their comfort zones, my great friend Amy Kenyon always says ‘nothing ever grows in a comfort zone!’ And she is so right, you need to stretch and grow, remaining stagnant and static in this crazy period of lockdown would have driven me to distraction. Instead I utilised the time to grow and progress my business online so it will support me more once I’m able to get back to my wonderful clients and my business of holding hands for a living and making people happy in many way but definitely including beautiful skin and nails. 74 wirrallife.com
