WORKING IT FROM HOME
As the pandemic continues to change the
way that we live our lives, more and more
of us are working from home, some from
choice and some from necessity! Whether
or not it is a choice, the disruption can have
a major impact on your home.
I have been working from home and I'm lucky
enough to have a dedicated room to make
into an office, but I have helped countless
clients with all shapes and sizes of rooms
design their space to fit the rigours of working
from a domestic set up. Here are a few of my
rules for ensuring the impact is not a negative
one on your home and life.
Firstly, zone your space, whether you have a
dedicated room or are working from a corner
of your living room. Ensure that the space is
set up for what you need. Incorporate your
computer, PC or laptop, storage for papers
and filing, light, accessories etc.
Secondly, the surface you work on and the seat
you sit in is vital for productivity and comfort.
Please ensure that your work surface is
comfortable for you to type on, write on etc and
the chair should be backed and ergonomically
designed if possible.
Thirdly, if you are working in a non-dedicated
space for example your living room and don’t
want your work accoutrement on sight, invest
in clever storage and or a screen so that when
you are not working the items are out of sight.

Lastly, inspiration is important, ensure
that your eyeline is met with something
that inspires you, a great view, a photo of
something or someone who motivates you,
my gaze is currently on the green and russet
leaves of the trees outside, a ceramic cactus
which reminds me of Palm Springs and a
photograph of the current crush. Distracting
I hear you say, not at all - three things remind
me how lucky I am, how inspired by nature I
am and how much I need to work to afford
that house in Palm Springs!!
