A lot of people will say a car is just a form of transport to get from A to B. For us enthusiasts it’s more than that. We believe it is personal, it is a reflection of our personality. There is always a story to tell and it connects people. And Cars N Coffee Liverpool are very proud to be part of that journey each month. July’s meeting was yet another memorable month featuring two very special cars - both of which come from very different backgrounds and era. We were pleased to present Steve Pilkington’s beautiful 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB 4 CAM in Argento silver with the most finest burgundy hide interior, driven by Kev Jessop. This 275 GTB was a two- seat grand touring coupé produced between 1964 and 1966. The name of this model was derived from the engine’s per-cylinder displacement of 275 cc and the Italian designation Gran Turismo Berlinetta. The 275 GTB used a double overhead cam 3.3 litre Colombo-designed 60º V-12 engine, Power was claimed to be 280 horsepower. The standard coupe 275 GTB body was lightweight, chassis fabricated in steel with aluminium alloy doors, hood and trunk lid. Designed by Italian style house Pininfarina with coachwork constructed by Scaglietti. Actually, this light cool classic shade on the stunning Pininfarina-penned design makes this one of the most beautiful cars to grace Cars N Coffee Liverpool. On the other spectrum we turn to another star car of the day which was Rob Cornell’s 1976 Nissan Skyline KGC110. If you came late to the meeting, you would think with the two cars parked outside, the head of the Japanese Yakuza was meeting Vito Corleone Italian mafia. If you’re a JDM (Japanese Cars or abbreviation - Japanese Domestic Market) fan, Vintage Nissan Skyline GT-Rs are one of the coolest Japanese cars you will ever see. She is the only one in the UK so an incredibly rare sight, only 197 GT-R’s were ever built. The vintage Nissan Skylines, from the early 1970s all the way through 2001. The Skyline was the grandfather of the original GT-R line that had garnered Nissan massive racing and video-game notoriety. This particular car was a 1976 Nissan Skyline KGC110 Kenmeri Skyline. “Kenmeri”- nicknamed for a famous ad campaign featuring a young American-style couple named Ken and Mary - who would go on days out in their Skyline. The name has stuck ever since. Clever marketing as they were obviously styling their cars on the American muscle cars and if you switch the names around : Mary/Ken is a play on words of “American”. She has a fully rebuilt L28 Engine on Triple 40mm Mikuni Solex Carbs, 140hp, straight six. Sitting on ultra deep 14” RS-Watanabe wheels with Semi Slick Toyo R888 tyres, custom coilovers built for lowering the car to achieve the infamous ‘Shakotan Style’ made famous in Japan. If this is not your cup of tea, our star car chosen by the parents and children on the day was a yellow vintage car called ‘Bessie’. The most famous Doctor Who car, which was a favourite with millions of viewers for its futuristic features in the Seventies. Bessie is a SIVA Edwardian, one of only 100 made and only 19 known to survive. When John Pertwee became Dr Who they decided to give him a car as a gimmick. The producers saw a SIVA and purchased one. When the BBC SIVA was sent away for an engine upgrade my car was used for filming one series (six episodes). The main car now resides in the Beaulieu Motor Museum and the ‘understudy’ lives with the owner Rob Preston on Wirral (whom is a huge car fanatic we’ve mentioned in the past for his obscure cars, in a good way of course ;-) Our chosen charity this month was the R Charity Foundation - Manchester Bombing and we raised an incredible £250 in the three hours. A big thanks to all our motoring members, amazing friends and supporters. The next Cars N Coffee will be on Sunday 28th July 2019 with the new Liverpool Lord Mayor, Peter Brennan, at Chung Ku Restaurant. Join us for a Coffee Origin, a Char Sui Bun and steamed Hotdog bun!!! Safe happy motoring :) For more information: visit www.carsandcoffeeliverpool.co.uk or www.chungku.co. wirrallife.com 95
