WIRRAL MARATHON MAN RAISES OVER £10,000 FOR
CHILDREN’S CHARITY AFTER SURVIVING AMAZON
RAINFOREST CHALLENGE
A West Kirby man has raised over £10,000 for a children’s
cancer charity after successfully completing his second
ultra-marathon in as many years.
Lee Quinn, a Litigation Executive & Department Manager at
Birkenhead-based Your Legal Friend, took part in The Jungle
Ultra race earlier this month in support of Neuroblastoma
UK.
The marathon was a five-day 230km race through the heart
of the Amazon Rainforest in Peru, in an area home to some of
the most dangerous animals in the world. It involved battling
through jungle undergrowth, river crossings and mountain
valleys in sweltering 30 degree heat.
No stranger to a challenge, Lee had previously completed the
six-day 257km Marathon des Sables across the Sahara Desert
in July 2016.
He personally paid out over £6,500 on entry fees, flights,
food and equipment for both challenges, meaning that all the
funds he has raised will go directly to Neuroblastoma UK.
Neuroblastoma typically affects children under five years old
and is responsible for one in six cancer deaths in children in
the UK.
Lee’s support for the charity began after a family friend’s child
was diagnosed with the rare condition. Lee Quinn, Litigation
Executive & Department Manager at Your Legal Friend said:
“This was another exhausting challenge but it was absolutely
incredible to take part in.
“It’s been well worth the effort and I’ve been overwhelmed
with people’s generosity and the support from my family,
friends and colleagues.
“I know that the funds I’ve raised will assist Neuroblastoma
UK in continuing the fantastic work that they do, and it will
hopefully make a difference in helping the children and
families that this terrible cancer affects.”
Tony Heddon, Chair of Neuroblastoma UK added: “Lee has
done a fantastic job and we all applaud him for his efforts.
“We are really grateful, and it will help us in our fight against
this awful disease.”
Neuroblastoma UK raises funds for medical research to
improve both diagnosis and treatment of the cancer.
