Christmas is the spirit of giving without receiving. We see joy in people - it's finding time for others. This month's chosen charity was the Food Bank - City Central drop off collection at the Anglican Cathedral. It was a great privilege to see the community come together at Chung Ku restaurant in Liverpool this month. Many of our motor enthusiasts dropped generous amounts of food - thank you! Remember Oliver Harrison’s huge JCB Fastrac 4220 (similar to Guy Martins’s Speed record JCB yellow tractor) whom we briefly mentioned last August issue. Can you believe we had the pleasure of leading the convoy with this monstrous vehicle to the Food bank at the Anglican Liverpool Cathedral after the Cars 'N' Coffee Liverpool event. This month's two star cars are Brian Brown’s ‘Back to the Future’ DMC Delorean and Ian Gardner’s beautiful 1957 Citroen Traction Avant Normale. One of the last Paris built Tractions, as production finished in the summer of 1957. The car is regularly used 12 months a year! The Citroën Traction Avant was a range of mostly 4-door saloons and executive cars, with four or six-cylinder engines, produced by the French manufacturer Citroen from 1934 to 1957. Approximately 760,000 units were produced. The Traction Avant pioneered mass-production of three revolutionary innovations widely adopted since, and still used today: front wheel drive, four-wheel independent suspension, and the use of a crash resistant, unitary, monocoque body. Additionally, the car was one of the earliest mass-production adopters of rack and pinion steering. The DMC (commonly referred to simply as a “DeLorean”, as it was the only model ever produced by the company) was a sports car originally manufactured by John DeLorean’s DeLorean Motor Company, or DMC, for the Global market in Ireland from model years 1981 through 1983. Most will know the iconic car in the 1985 American Sci-Fi classic ‘Back to the Future’. Staring the crazy Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) and the eccentric mad scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro (who had styled sports cars for Maserati and Alfa Romeo, as well as a number of Volkswagen mainstays, such as the original Golf). Stands out for its gull-wing doors and brushed stainless- steel outer body panels. Did you know that in 1995, Stephen Wynne, a British entrepreneur from Liverpool, created a separate company based in Texas using the DeLorean Motor Company name. Wynne acquired the trademark on the stylized DMC logo shortly thereafter, along with the remaining parts inventory of the original DeLorean Motor Company. Here at Cars ‘N’ Coffee Liverpool, we would like to say a huge big thank you to those who generously donated their time, food & effort to convoy with us to the Food Bank.
