W L KINGSMEAD'S NEW SIXTH FORM ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL INTEREST The new Sixth Form at Kingsmead School in Hoylake has already attracted an international following and a lot of positive media interest. Pupils from India and China have joined the UK members of the school’s growing Sixth Form and boarding communities, and the story of how they are settling into school life here has been featured in the region’s daily media. Career advice is provided via group talks and one–to–one consultations, close liaison with parents and additional staff input. Governors and influential alumni facilitate invaluable mock interviews. And Kingsmead has many friends in the wider world: generations of distinguished alumni ensure strong links are maintained with industries, universities and colleges. Small wonder. Kingsmead’s Sixth Form offers several unique advantages to students... Enhanced Learning: The Kingsmead Difference It is the culmination of an education which is delivered at every academic stage with a high level of individual attention. The school has an extended school day to create time for a multiplicity of additional sports, clubs and societies. Within the 23 acre campus there is the modern dedicated senior block, peaceful study areas, acres of woodland and playing fields, an indoor heated swimming pool, sports hall, theatre/cinema, music/drama room, computer suites, science laboratories and tennis court. Kingsmead’s commitment to individual growth extends to its new Sixth Form which provides 1:1 bespoke tuition at A Level and BTEC, a level of individual support no other Wirral sixth form can offer. Supporting this academic input is acclaimed pastoral care and an enormous range of co-curricular opportunities to expand horizons, build confidence and develop independence and leadership. The smaller groups allow a high level of individual attention: students receive all the support they need while the most able are continuously challenged. The extended day is punctuated with a half hour morning break (longer at lunchtime), filled with myriad sports and clubs which allow Sixth Form students, separated by their subject choices, regular opportunities to gather together and interact: a healthy balance to every day. Most of the students take three academic subjects and the Extended Qualification Project. AS qualifications are available at the end of the Lower Sixth and the School offers BTEC (a better option for some as it has less emphasis on examination performance). Distinctions or Merits in a BTEC can provide access to good university courses. Growing towards adulthood is challenging. At Kingsmead, when, as is inevitable, issues arise there is instant and sensitive engagement between the school, the student and the parents. Kingsmead is, quite simply, a wonderful environment in which to study. To contact Kingsmead School, call 0151 632 3156. wirrallife.com 17
