Lamborghini Urus
by David Gidman
On the 23 April 2012 at the Beijing Auto Show Automobili
Lamborghini stunned the world with the preview of their
SUV prototype - code named the Urus. Since then there has
been lots of rumours and speculation about whether this
concept Super SUV would ever actually go into production. limited to 190mph. Derestricted it will easily hit 210mph. Whuuut. Gulp.
With such incredible performance figures comes equally impressive brake
specifications. The Urus will come with the largest Carbon Ceramic Brake
discs available on any production vehicle. A huge 440mm on the front
and 370mm on the rear. The front brake calipers have 10 pistons and will
produce 62-0mph stopping distance of 33.7 metres.
Well, in 2016 Automobili Lamborghini confirmed that they had been
given the go ahead to build the Super SUV and as with every Lamborghini
it would be built in Italy at the assembly plant in Sant’Agata. The Urus will have the same 4-wheel steering system developed for the
Aventador S. The All wheel drive system which usually splits 40% to the
front wheels and 60% to the rear uses Torque Vectoring to aid with grip
and handling and can send as much as 70% of the power to the front
wheels and 87% to the rear wheels when needed.
On the 4th December 2017, Lamborghini unveiled to the world the
production version of the Urus and as usual they did not let us down. They
unveiled what can only be described as the wildest SUV to be launched
since the Lamborghini LM02, which was essentially a military designed
off road SUV with a V12 engine lifted from the Lamborghini Countach.
The Urus has air suspension that can provide as much as 250mm of
ground clearance for use when off road so it will be as capable off road as
it will be on road.
This time they haven’t gone so crazy as to put in the 6.5l V12 from the
Aventador. They have gone for a more manageable and eco-friendly 4.0l
V8 twin turbo designed by Lamborghini that creates 641BHP and 850NM
torque. Making this SUV by far the fastest accelerating SUV available for
sale which was previously held by the Bentley Bentayga. The Urus will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March and the
first demonstrators will be available from April. The first lucky customers
will receive their cars in July.
The performance figures for the Lamborghini Urus are mind blowing
for any vehicle, let alone an SUV. Official 0-60 is 3.6 seconds, but early
testing at the Nardo test facility have clocked 3.3seconds which is only
0.2 seconds slower than the Lamborghini Huracan. Top speed has been For more information:
