MALTA Valletta the capital of this former British colony is in the spotlight as a 2018 European Capital of Culture. With over 300 sunny days and some of the cleanest water in the Med, Malta has always been a favourite. Holidaymakers are often surprised with the island ' s 7,000 year history. Malta has a greater density of historic sights than any other country. Starting with its unique prehistoric temples, some of the oldest stone buildings in the world, it also has Roman catacombs, medieval towns, and the extraordinary architectural legacy of the Knights of St John( the Knights of Malta). The vibe here is very laid back, though over the past few years Malta has seen a burgeoning club scene and the annual international arts festival, has brought in a new hip crowd. Boutique hotels are springing up everywhere ready for the influx of visitors in 2018. Air Malta will be flying weekly from Manchester starting 1st May.

SEYCHELLES The Seychelles’ is one of Destination Anywhere ' s favourite countries. 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, lots of barefoot luxury and a bit wilder, than its neighbours, the Maldives and Mauritius. Primeval jungle fringes white-coral sand; postcard-blue sea pounds dramatic black rocks. Its just about to become more accessible thanks to BA reintroducing its direct flight from London Heathrow. This couldn ' t have happened at a better time, with new hotel openings and many of the old favourites sprucing up their offerings. Self-sustaining Frégate, a conservation success with its own hydroponic farm, recently revamped its villas; the beach lodge on North Island, where William and Kate honeymooned, has been refurbished with glamorous embellishments. PORTO If its a city break you are looking for, Portugal has a lot to offer. If 2017 belonged to Lisbon, 2018 belongs to Portugal ' s second largest city, Porto. Fusing old and new, with its beautiful, colourful abandoned buildings, baroque churches as well as newer constructions springing up around the city. Foodies will love it, with plentiful fresh fish, cheese and port of course, the shopping isn ' t bad either. Not so easy to get to from the North West but combine Lisbon and Porto and you can get the train between the two.
BELIZE With one foot in the Caribbean Sea and the other in the Central American jungles, Belize may be small but it ' s packed with adventure and culture. Leonardo di Caprio has spent 10 years developing a luxury eco-resort on one of the islands that he discovered while on holiday. Blackadore Caye will open this year.
CHILE This South American country topped the prestigious Lonely Planet best in travel list for 2018 meaning interest is already at a peak, plus it is celebrating 200 years of Independence. Chile caters for a wide range of tastes and budgets. Start of in the cosmopolitan capital Santiago, trek in the scorched Atacama Desert, visit the crystal clear lakes of Puerto Varas and the dramatic mountains of Torres del Paine National Park, in Patagonia. While you are there, fly 5 hours west of the mainland and you will reach the mysterious Easter Island. Here, a unique culture exists with its own way of life, closer to that of the Polynesian islands. Shrouded in mysterious history, it’ s a beautiful island and arguably the jewel in Chile ' s crown.
SEVILLE Compact, rich in history and famous for its flamenco, tapas bars and orange trees, Seville is an ideal short break destination, especially in spring before the sun becomes too scorching. Stay in the city’ s old town to explore the cobbled streets of the Santa Cruz quarter and the breathtaking Alcázar Palace. Soak up the atmosphere on the banks of the Guadalquivir, and admire the views from the ancient cathedral tower. You can now fly direct from Liverpool.
SOUTH AFRICA Last year Destination Anywhere sent more people to South Africa than anywhere else. Including Travel Consultant Sue Johnson. This diverse country has so much to offer, fabulous beaches, amazing wildlife experiences, gorgeous views along the Garden Route, plus its a foodies paradise. The exchange rate is still favourable, allowing us Brits to dine like Kings and Queens. 2018 sees the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’ s birth in July and a series of events and exhibitions. Combine it with a trip to Botswana or to Victoria Falls in Zambia.
