Is there a common misconception about holistic therapies that you would like to challenge? For me, people who may find comfort in hugging a tree say or somatic movements. I meet lots of people who will question the benefits of doing things like this.. but honestly everyone finds comfort in something and for me I don’ t care what it is, if its works for you then go for it! Let’ s stop thinking about the outside world and what people think. Let’ s focus on us and our health and wellbeing. It’ s time for us!
Can you share a success story or a particularly rewarding client experience that has stayed with you? One of my most rewarding moments and one that will stay with me forever was a lovely local lady approached me to ask if her terminally ill mother could come to one of our Sound Healing events. However, she was unable to lie down on the floor. We adjusted the setting to make her a very comfortable chair and footstool and invited her daughters to come along with her. The family had 45 minutes of peace and relaxation whilst sitting alongside their mother. The following day the daughter called me in tears saying her mum had the best night sleep, and they all really enjoyed spending such a special time together. That was a moment for her and the family and to be able to give them an hour of peace was really humbling for me. I had achieved everything I needed at that point. Sadly, the mum passed away a short time ago, but the family still remain loyal customers of ours.
What makes your therapy centre different from others in the area? Being a staple building within Oxton Village makes the centre feel more welcoming and with our beautiful gardens and outside space really does create this lovely tranquil space for people to enjoy. The building itself was est in1858 which housed the Thomas family who were respected local builders who shape landmarks such as Saviours Church and many of the homes that still stand today. Back then it was a place of energy! Stone getters, stonemasons worked tirelessly transporting sandstone across the village by horse and cart. Back then it was building a community just like it does today.
What trends are you seeing in the health and wellbeing sector now? Big trends right now are Longevity, red light therapies, hot and cold sauna / dips. People are now a lot more focussed on health and wellbeing. My future goal for the Barns is to be a centre hub for all of that. I can really see it becoming a place in the village where everyone can benefit from the treatments we offer.
Do you work with businesses or organisations, and if so, how can holistic wellbeing benefit the workplace?
Yes, our Workplace Wellness side of the business is a very strong business. With data led results, employers can see and feel the difference in the workplace. Employees need to feel supported in all areas to be more productive and resilient. If people are happy in the workplace, they are happy in general. We spend a lot of time in the workplace, it’ s a place we need to feel supported.
What has been your proudest achievement since launching your business? Opening the Barns my second clinic and receiving such positive feedback. The High Sheriff visiting in full support was also a fantastic achievement for me.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the local community? Giving things back and helping is and always has been a massive thing to me. I help as much as possible. I care and I care a lot. I have a lot of empathy and will always put my hand out to support when I can. If I can bring that to the community then I will feel a real sense of belonging. Our communities are vital for families, local businesses etc. We all need to support each other. Oxton and Aughton are both wonderful villages and I am very proud to be part of them.
Are there any exciting plans, new services, or events coming up that you’ d like our readers to know about? I have a lot of exciting plans coming through. Sometimes I need to park some as I get too excited! Expansion within the Barns is a big thing for me. However the current business needs to meet the investment for me to be able to grow the other parts. I am mainly interested in having a longevity suite, also private health care. I feel we all need access to healthcare quickly. Wellness Days and retreats will follow them along with a new Charity I am looking to support in Chester. This will prove to be very exciting offering space for cancer patients to come and spend a beautiful day next to the river and use of facilities for respite. My brain never stops and I am sure there will be much more!
If someone is considering holistic therapy for the first time, what would you say to encourage them to take that first step? Don’ t overthink it, we are so welcoming and don’ t judge anyone. Everyone is welcome and they can just come and spend time with any of our therapist or instructors. Ask questions and take their time. There is no rush... swe will always be here for them. We will go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable.
