CREATING HOMES WITH PURPOSE AND PERSONALITY BY LEA SLOANE, FOUNDER OF SLOANE INTERIORS
Interior design shouldn’ t feel out of reach, it’ s about creating spaces that truly work for you. Whether you live in a period property or a modern family home, thoughtful design can transform not only how your space looks, but how it feels to live in. Based in the heart of Oxton, Sloane Interiors is an independent design studio with over ten years of experience, creating layered and lasting interiors where quiet luxury meets characterful design.
The Power of Paint Paint is one of the most underestimated design tools in our homes, yet it remains one of the simplest ways to transform a space. It costs far less than a new sofa, a kitchen renovation or a bathroom refit and yet still has the power to completely redefine how a room feels. Here’ s a few ideas and ways in which you do can elevate your home with just lick of paint!
Banish the beige Deep burgundy is having a well-deserved moment, and no, it’ s not your nan’ s dining room from 1980’ s. Today’ s burgundies are rich, warm and beautifully atmospheric. In a snug or living room, they glow in the evening light and instantly make a space feel more intimate, and far more interesting than safe navy. Chocolate brown is also back but in a far more sophisticated form. Think melted cocoa rather than flat 90s magnolia. These warmer, red-based browns feel grounding and luxurious, particularly in north facing homes where natural light can be a little cooler. Used well, they create a cocooning, grown up elegance. Green? It never truly left, it simply matured. We’ re seeing deeper moss and forest tones replacing brighter emeralds. Green remains one of the most liveable colours you can choose: calming, versatile and quietly confident. Perfect for hallways, studies or anywhere you want the room to feel settled and balanced.
Colour with confidence Start with a smaller space. A downstairs loo perhaps, utility room or hallway. These areas are perfect testing grounds because they’ re transitional and don’ t demand long hours of commitment. A deeper tone here can feel intentional rather than overwhelming. Architrave. Next, consider your woodwork. Painting skirting boards and architraves in a tonal shade slightly darker or softer than the wall, instantly adds depth and sophistication. It moves a room away from default white without feeling dramatic. Colour drench. When you’ re ready, explore colour drenching. Taking one shade across walls, woodwork and even ceilings creates cohesion and calm. Rather than making a space feel smaller, it often feels more enveloping and considered.
Confidence with colour isn’ t about being loud. It’ s about being intentional. Sometimes it takes a fresh perspective to see your home’ s full potential. Let Lea at Sloane Interiors help you step beyond the familiar. Not led by trends or minimalism, her designs are timeless, layered, and deeply personal filled with soul, character, and balance.
