ELIXIR OXTON by Si Hall and Nicky Rigby

Elixir in Oxton is the kind of place that feels instantly at ease with itself. Stylish without being showy, relaxed without losing its sense of refinement, it has quietly become a go-to for those who appreciate good food, thoughtful flavours and a welcoming atmosphere. This menu captures that balance perfectly, offering dishes that feel familiar yet elevated, indulgent yet considered.
We began with the Avocado Crostini, a dish that proves simplicity is often the strongest starting point. Silken avocado is generously spread over crisp, golden toasted crostini, providing a satisfying contrast of textures. The sun-dried tomato adds a gentle sweetness and depth, while a drizzle of quality olive oil brings everything together. It’ s clean, fresh and beautifully judged— the kind of plate that sets expectations high without shouting for attention.
Next came the Bang Bang Cauliflower, a vibrant, flavourpacked dish that quickly became a favourite. Cajun-spiced florets are cooked to perfection, crisp on the outside and tender within. The harissa emulsion adds warmth and complexity rather than overpowering heat, while crisp onions deliver an addictive crunch. It’ s bold, comforting and incredibly moreish, appealing just as much to plant-based diners as it does to committed carnivores.
The Homemade Meatballs lean confidently into comfort food territory, but with a refined touch. Braised slowly in a rich tomato and thyme sauce, the meatballs are tender and full of flavour. A finishing flourish of aioli adds creaminess, while the chorizo crumb introduces a smoky, savoury edge that lifts the whole dish. It’ s generous, satisfying and deeply comforting, perfect for sharing or savouring slowly.
The Hot Honey Chicken Wings bring a welcome hit of indulgence. Glazed in spiced honey, they strike a careful balance between sweet and heat, coating the wings without overwhelming them. Served with a fresh Asian slaw and sesame, the acidity and crunch cut through the richness beautifully, ensuring each bite remains exciting rather than heavy.
Seafood is a real highlight at Elixir, beginning with the Butter- Poached Prawns. Gently cooked in garlic and chilli butter, the prawns are delicate, succulent and full of flavour. A subtle tomato essence adds depth and warmth, complementing the richness of the butter without stealing the spotlight. It’ s a quietly luxurious dish that feels both indulgent and restrained.
The Tempura King Prawns offer something altogether lighter, showcasing technical finesse. The batter is crisp, airy and golden, encasing plump prawns without masking their flavour. A delicate teriyaki dip adds just enough sweetness and umami to enhance the dish, making it an ideal option for sharing.
One of the most impressive plates is the Blackened Red Mullet. Cooked confidently, the fish is smoky and tender, paired with a vibrant lime, mango and coconut salsa that brings freshness, sweetness and acidity. The result is a beautifully balanced dish that feels both modern and thoughtful, demonstrating real attention to flavour harmony.
Dessert continues the strong showing. The Sticky Toffee and Date Pudding, served with salted butterscotch and vanilla ice cream, is rich, warming and indulgent without being cloying. For a lighter finish, the Meringue Kisses with chantilly cream, macerated strawberries and strawberry caviar pearls offer sweetness, texture and a playful elegance that rounds off the meal perfectly.
Cocktails at Elixir are more than an afterthought. The Strawberry & Basil Smash is fresh and fragrant, combining strawberries, basil, citrus and gin into a drink that genuinely tastes like summer in a glass. The Whisky Sour is a masterclass in balance— smooth, frothy and perfectly judged between sweet, tart and strong.
Overall, Elixir delivers a menu that feels confident, cohesive and carefully crafted. It’ s a place that understands flavour, values quality ingredients and offers an experience that’ s as much about enjoyment as it is about execution— a true asset to Oxton’ s dining scene.
